The Queens Zoo just received some new avian additions, dozens of bobwhite quail chicks! The chicks hatched last month, and visitors can now spot them all over the zoo's aviary; we're told they are usually found in groups of four or five, being led by one of the adult female quails. And while they may not seem as adorable as, say, baby sea lions, here's a little background info from the Wildlife Conservation Society explaining more about these little guys:

Liquor Store Owner Plans To Give Chicks To Customers
About those rabbits in the Greenpoint liquor store window display? They allegedly belong to a friend of the owner, and will return back home after Easter... but the chicks, they can be yours! In a disturbing update, Miss Heather says the proprietor "has changed his plan" (which was to slaughter them at a farm in six weeks) and that "anyone who wants a chick after Easter can have one." Which means there will be lots of abandoned chicks around town in about one week from now. Unless Farm Sanctuary saves the day! Spokesperson Meredith Turner told us this morning:
Liquor Store Puts Bunnies and Chicks on Display
Yesterday Miss Heather came across this sad sight, the latest window display at T & N Wine and Liquor store on Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint.
The establishment’s proprietor, Chris, told her he ordered 25 chicks from a hatchery, which were delivered via the USPS. They're currently being held hostage in the liquor store display window until just after Easter, when they will be promptly moved to a farm upstate, and killed six weeks later. Allegedly they were bred for body mass, and after that amount of time their legs will no longer be able to support their weight.
