As the name implies, Terraza Cafe Art is a rather Bohemian hang complete with an eclectic decor we like to call Colombian folkloric hippie. Handmade baskets line the top of the bar; a Buddhist icon adorns one wall; and numerous Christian religious statues are scattered about. Add a soundtrack with everything from the Doors and Joe Cocker to Kid Rock, The Cure and Colombian music and a video projector that plays everything from Droopy Dawg......

30 Years of Kino International Film Society of Lincoln Center In the creation of great cinema, a far-thinking and nurturing distributor is almost as important as the artists they're supporting. This year one of those historically important movie companies, Kino International turns 30 years old and in celebration of their fine work over the years the Film Society is showing two weeks worth of films all originally released by Kino. The movies featured in the......

Two quite controversial and buzzed about movies hit New York theaters this weekend. So far the critical opinion of raving lunatic Mel Gibson's new foreign language feature, Apocalypto, seems to be pretty favorable. The movie about a Mayan family man and the invading nearby tribe, sounds like it is painstakingly composed but has quite a bit of gratuitous, sadistic violence. Lisa Schwartzbaum in EW even calls it "the weirdest, most violent movie of the year,"......

Walter Pertyk, the Leon Goldstein High School junior who caused a fuhrer furor when he dressed as Hitler for Halloween, held a press conference - in costume - to explain himself. The Post has the details:"I'm not a Nazi. It's a Halloween costume," he declared. "People have taken it too seriously . . . I'm not going to go around and kill Jews or anything." At one point, the gathering was interrupted by area resident......

A Brooklyn high school student was reprimanded by school officials for coming to school in a Hitler costume. The Post reports that 16 year old Walter Pertyk was taken out of his second period English class at Leon M. Goldstein High School (named after a "prominent Jewish educator") over his Halloween garb. "Excuse me, fuhrer, can I talk to you for a minute?" is how Petryk recalled the dean, Paul Puglia, summoning him out of......

The Post totally has got its panties in a twist today over an article in the latest issue of the Midwood High School Argus (sadly, or luckily, a brief search turned up no web presence for the Argus) by a junior boy and a junior girl there. The article? "Personal Grooming Goes Down Under" a tongue-in-cheek look at "a problem most teenage males struggle with today:" Manscaping. Specifically, pubic-manscaping. "One junior boy called shaving his......

New York City is holding a competition to design new street lights. Part of their objectives are "Seek out and identify new ideas for public street lighting" and "Obtain the flexibility to apply an integrated streetlight design on a block-by-block, street-by-street, or district-by-district basis within the city's five boroughs"; beyond that, it's more of a mouthful: The current city standard, introduced almost fifty years ago, consists of variations of a fabricated steel pole and Cobra......
