If there's a Kushner, there's a controversy! The former head of the financing arm of real estate developer Kushner Companies is suing his former employer and claims money from commission of the purchase of 666 Fifth Avenue (for $1.8 billion) actually went to keep the Observer, owned by Charles Kushner's son Jared, afloat. Swill also claims that other money was put into trusts for Kushner's kids and to pay off family loans--and that some money also went to Mark O'Donnell, aka boyfriend of former Governor Jim McGreevey and a Kushner employee. The Kushners' spokesman denied the accusations, calling Swill a "disgruntled employee." Well, this is interesting, but not as good at when Charles Kushner hired prostitutes to seduce his sister's husband and his accountants so he could blackmail them, but only his brother-in-law took the bait.

Not all NYU law students can say they bought a NYC newspaper over their summer break, but Jared Kushner can. The 25 year old son of NJ developer Charles Kushner has paid $10 million for majority ownership of the salmon pink colored weekly. Of course, we know Kushner's dad better as the guy who tried to get back at his sister by hiring a prostitute to seduce his sister's husband and then mailing the tape of the tryst to his sister. That's a lot of family love right there.

Governor James McGreevey announced yesterday that he was stepping down as Governor of the Garden State yesterday in a press conference where he also announced that he was gay. With support from his ex-wife and current wife, McGreevey said he had his feelings since adolescence and that the truth was that he was "a gay American", that he "engaged in an adult consensual affair with another man", and that "given the circumstances surrounding the affair and its likely impact upon my family and my ability to govern, I have decided the right course of action is to resign."

NY Councilman Alan Jennings gets a little bit of a respite as political scandal mongers are LOVING the news that one of NJ Governor James McGreevey's biggest donors hired a prostitute to thwart a witness in the federal case against him. Yes, it's totally confusing, and it doesn't get back to McGreevey, but the fact that real estate developer Charles Kushner, being investigated for tax fraud and illegal campaign contributions, hired a prostitute to seduce a witness and then mailed a tape of the act to the witness's wife is totally insane. In fact, Kushner hired the prostitute to seduce his brother-in-law and accountant, but only the brother-in-law did the deed - his sister's brother! The Post notes that it's "right out of a pulp crime novel," and that's totally spot-on. Gothamist says read up on this and then read some James M. Cain, Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler stat!

Other bids to purchase Nets are from NJ developer Charles Kushner and NJ Sen. Jon Corzine (bid: $267.5 million) and NY investor Stuart Feldman ($257.5 million), who have said the Nets would stay in NJ. Ratner's bid is for $275 million. And as it's the only bid to bring the Nets to NYC, Mayor Bloomberg will be at today's ceremony, along with Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz.

It's like a smackdown between Jen and Jake - if Jake had any interest in professional basketball. There's a fight over the New Jersey Nets (Gothamist knows - of all things!) between New Jersey and Brooklyn. Rich NJ senator Jon Corzine is teaming up with developer Charles Kushner and other NJ politicos (Governor McGreevey, former Senator Torricelli) to keep the Nets in NJ, countering NY developer Bruce Ratner's plan to bring the Eastern Conference champions to downtown Brooklyn. (There is a third interested party, Charles Wang, former chairman of Computer Associates who also owns the Islanders, but it's more exciting to say "NJ vs. Brooklyn" than "Long Island vs. Brooklyn.") The "Brooklyn" Nets would factor into a greater Brooklyn redevelopment plan. Gothamist is most amused by Nets foward Richard Jefferson who tells the Post, "I just work there. I got traded once, so I'm just a piece of meat."
