25-Year-Old Tumblr CEO's Sunday Routine: Room For Improvement

25-Year-Old Tumblr CEO's Sunday Routine: Room For Improvement

David Karp is 25 years old. He's just like any other twenty-something, except for the fact that he's worth $40 million, give or take. You see, Karp founded Tumblr, that little blogging platform that people everywhere love to use 13 times and then quit. But thanks to the New York Times, we know how he and his girlfriend spend their Sundays at their West Village apartment. Turns out: they're kinda boring! We can't fault him there, but since we got our degree in internet mogul image-polishing, we're willing to give Karp a free consultation. more ›

JetBlue CEO: Steven Slater Is No Hero

Remember Steven Slater? The JetBlue flight attendant made a dramatic exit from an aircraft at JFK earlier this month and, well, you know... beers, emergency chutes, swearing at passengers, media frenzy! Now the airline's CEO is speaking out, and Dave Barger says the former company employee "is not a hero in my book. He added that he's "disheartened to think that so many people would call him a hero." more ›

CEO of Furniture Company Arrested in Fatal DWI

Harley Greenfield, the CEO of Jennifer Convertibles, drunkenly ran over an MTA security guard as he walked across the Whitestone Expressway last night around 10:45, police sources said. Greenfield refused to take a Breathalyzer (can't we just make this mandatory?) but law enforcement officials tell City Room he "had alcohol on his breath and red, watery eyes, and told officers he had consumed one vodka drink and a glass of wine." (According to the Post, he was given a portable Breathalyzer test at the scene, but later refused to take an official Breathalyzer test at the station house.) The victim, Mohammed Rohman, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene. more ›

Former NJ Gov. Corzine Has Three New Jobs!

Just as the city braces for another jobs crisis, former NJ Gov. Jon Corzine is poised to take on three new titles. Effective immediately, he'll head up MF Global, a Wall Street options and futures firm; starting soon he'll be a partner at J.C. Flowers & Company, a buyout firm; and next semester, Princeton students will call him Professor. “I like working,” said the 63-year-old who broke 15 bones and almost died in a 2007 car accident. Maybe he'll tell those Princeton kids to buckle up! more ›

Whole Foods Invaded by Angry Yes Men Movie Audience

Whole Foods Invaded by Angry Yes Men Movie Audience

The team behind the Yes Men movie are doing a great job getting audiences at Film Forum to participate in direct-action stunts after the screenings. On Wednesday night organizers persuaded most people in the audience to head over to a nearby Chase bank and write political stuff on the sidewalk with coal—because JP Morgan Chase underwrites Massey Energy, which does a lot of mountaintop removal coal mining. Anyway, last night they kicked it up a notch. more ›

New MTA Czar Gets Confirmed Amid Harsh MTA Criticism

New MTA Czar Gets Confirmed Amid Harsh MTA Criticism

Czar alert! Yesterday the state Senate confirmed Jay Walder for the position of chairman and CEO of the MTA. That's equivalent to rank of czar, according to the Post, which reports that Walder told lawmakers he "will be back" to try and wrest $10 billion from Albany for the MTA's five-year plan, which includes finishing the fabled Second Avenue Subway. The Senate's 47-13 vote was preceded by some debate, during which Democratic Staten Island Senator Diane J. Savino spoke for her constituents: "There is a level of discontent that exists between the M.T.A. and the people in this room, the people who should be your partner." more ›

Goldman Sachs CEO Urges Employees Not To Spend

Goldman Sachs CEO Urges Employees Not To Spend

Goldman Sachs has caught the public's eye in recent weeks thanks to record profits and damning exposes about the bank's historic role in the economy's boom and bust cycle. Oh, and the pedophilia. Like many rich and powerful institutions, Goldman doesn't appreciate the attention, coming as it does as tent cities and soaring unemployment are turning the nation into a Dickens novel by way of Mad Max. An employee tells the Post that CEO Lloyd Blankfein has been urging his employees to avoid any high-profile purchases: "This is a sensitive time for us, and [Blankfein] wants to make sure that we're not being seen living high on the hog." While it's probably wise to postpone buying that diamond-encrusted office bidet for now, isn't this kind of bad news for the city economy? What happened to trickle-down economics? How much longer does the service industry—the chauffeurs, the naked sushi models, the bidet installers—have to wait for conspicuous consumption to come back in style? more ›

AIG CEO Faces Congressional Questioning

AIG CEO Faces Congressional Questioning

AIG CEO Edward "We're Legally Obligated to Pay Millions to Executives Who Helped Bring the Company Down" Liddy is scheduled to face questions from Congress's Financial Services Committee today. Yesterday, Liddy wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post, "The anger is understandable, and I share it... No one knows better than I do that AIG has been the recipient of generous amounts of government financial aid. We are acutely aware not only that we must be good stewards of the public funds we have received but that the patience of America's taxpayers is wearing thin." more ›
