Studying under God's watchful eye requires self-discovery, sacrifice, and occassionally some booty-rumbling beats that imbue you with the spirit of the Almighty. That's why Staten Island's Moore Catholic School blasts music from their football field at seemingly odd hours and high volumes, but neighbors (pagans?) have had enough. "It's like being in the front row of a metal concert with nowhere to go. It's like jet-plane level," one resident tells the Staten Island Advance. And there's absolutely nothing worse than Christian metal.

"Racist" Bronx Catholic Principal Fired After Public Outrage
Frank Borzellieri, whose controversial ideas on race and ties to a white supremacy group outraged many because he was principal of a Bronx Catholic school with a majority of Hispanic and black students, was fired earlier today. "This decision was reached following a thorough internal review of his opinions and beliefs as expressed in his books and columns, and a discussion with Mr. Borzellieri himself," Archdiocese spokesman Joseph Zwilling tells the Daily News. Man, they finished Borzellieri's entire oeuvre in just two days? They're like Game of Thrones, but racist!
"Racist" Bronx Catholic Principal Under Investigation By Archdiocese
It appears the Holy powers that be have taken note of Frank Borzellieri, who has been the principal of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in the Bronx for the past two years and has also published material with American Renaissance, a white supremacy group. Borzellieri is now under investigation by the Archdiocese of New York. A spokesman for the diocese says, "Any form of discrimination or bigotry is inconsistent with Catholic teaching." Other teachers complained about him while he was teaching at St. Barnabas High School, but the principal at the time tells the Daily News, "Frank was certainly in his right to say it and it wasn't against the church teaching, so it didn't affect his status at St. Barnabas." Well, which is it? Better ask the Pope! Actually, maybe not.
Bronx Catholic School Principal Has Ties To White Supremacy Movement
Former news columnist, teacher and ultra-conservative school board member Frank Borzellieri has ties to American Renaissance, or AmRen, a white supremacist publication. He's also been the principal of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in the Bronx, a school with a majority of black and Hispanic students, for the past two years. Mount Carmel's pastor, Rev. Eric Rapaglia, tells the Daily News he didn't see a potential conflict between the black and Hispanic students at the school and Borzellieri's views: "Do I agree with all of it? No. But I think much of it is valuable and logical and reasonable. A lot of his ideas would actually benefit minorities." Wow, there's gonna be some awkward parent-teacher conferences this fall!
Lawsuit Claims High School Football Team Hazed Teen With Broomstick
A lawsuit filed by the family of a student at Staten Island's all-boys Catholic school St. Peter's alleges that he was subjected to violent hazing and that the school refused to act against the aggressors. According to the Post, the freshman was "held down by four beefy linebackers in the locker room and repeatedly jabbed in the groin and rear end with a broomstick." That description probably could have done without the word "beefy," but hey, the guy who came up with "Headless Body Found In Topless Bar" just retired to cut the Post some slack.
Bunch Of Seniors Barred From SI Prom For Being Seniors
Regardless of whether you believe prom is the apex of the best years of your life, or the epitome of the cruelty of youth, there is a reason that prom is guaranteed in the Constitution: so you can grind hips against your crush while R. Kelly plays at an uncomfortable volume. This is the right of every youngblood in America, but one Staten Island high school has done the unthinkable, and cancelled prom for a fourth of the graduating class. Did the kids of Moore Catholic High School forget to pay their library fees? Flunk out? Worse: they drew penises around their athletic field!
Catholic Teacher Axed For "Inappropriate" Conduct 10 Years Ago
A Brooklyn all-boys Catholic school teacher has been fired for alleged "inappropriate" conduct with a student a decade ago. Joseph Appel, 33, had been dean of the Xaverian High School's honors program and its drama director. Officials told students about his dismissal at an assembly earlier this week: "They told us he did something inappropriate with a student 10 years ago," said one student at the Bay Ridge school.
Archdiocese Will Shut 27 Catholic Schools, 13 By June
Because of an enrollment drop, the NY Archdiocese has slated 27 Catholic schools for closure, with 13 of them expected to be closed by the end of the school year (list). The organization is reportedly calling it the 'Pathways to Excellence' plan, but one teacher told the Daily News, "[The archdiocese officials] really don't look at the school or the children. I think it's just a heartless call." It's unclear where the 3,652 displaced children will go to school, but Archbishop Timothy Dolan said there will be counselors to help students transition to other schools.
Students, Parents Enraged Over Catholic School Closures
The imminent closure of two lower Manhattan Catholic schools has gentle Christians seeing red. “Pray for our Schools” and “Save My School” said the signs wielded by students, parents and faculty at a protest rally yesterday. Some admitted that the shut-downs—decided by NY’s Archdiocese, as a result of dropping Catholic school enrollment city-wide—were pushing the limits of their faith. “I’m attempting to be a Christian, but right now I want to kill," said Stephanie Pinto, a trustee and former student of St. James School, established in 1854.
Catholic Schools Robbed of Cash, Checks
Robbers have decided to bypass the poor boxes and instead steal from Catholic schools in Brooklyn and Queens. The Post reports that thieves stole a heavy safe from the Holy Family School in Flushing, Queens. It's suspected that it's an inside job, since the thieves "were able to find the safe on the second floor in a locked closet" and "also seemed to know it recently had been filled with tuition money, which was to be deposited the following day." Plus they were able to remove the safe, which had $19,000 in cash and checks, without waking the sleeping nuns! Sister Dorothy Delaney said, "I hate to say it, but someone must have known where it was." Other Catholic schools have reported robberies; the Post say the police aren't saying whether it's a pattern. Last week, Mayor Bloomberg announced that he would attempt to turn some Catholic schools into charter schools.
62-Year-Old Woman Punched, Mugged in Brooklyn
The police released surveillance video showing a 62-year-old woman being mugged in hopes someone will be able to identify the attacker. This past Monday morning around 6:40 a.m., Patricia McGowan was heading to Good Shepherd School in Marine Park, a Catholic school where she has worked for 43 years as a math and computer teacher, when a young man approached her.
Not a Good Week at Cathedral High School
Cathedral High School has a top reputation as an all-girls high school of the Archdiocese of New York. However, this past week has been rough: Teachers from Cathedral, as well as from nine other Catholic high schools, had a sickout. Plus, a former teacher admitted to assaulting students.
