MTV Looking For Real People, Real Life Experiences

In preparation for its American adaptation of the UK's provocative television knockout Skins, MTV is holding a casting call in Brooklyn in search of 15-18 year old non-actors of all types in its hunt for "the most charismatic and actually edgy kids." They're looking for genuine alpha males, divas, and "shy-types" to portray their naturally stereotypical selves along the vein of the original series which follows adventurous teens who deal with issues like pregnancy, eating disorders, and fulfilled teacher fetishes. While the series will inevitably take place in Baltimore, casting agent Kim Madalinski tells Brokelyn that looking in Brooklyn is a "no brainer."

Victoria's Secret held the New York portion of their National Model Search at Yankee Stadium this past Saturday, and the wanna-be Angels are now popping up all over the place. There were reportedly around 2,000 who showed up (some with wings)... but no word yet on who knocked it out of the park, or if A-Rod auditioned.

Seinfeld Looks For Fighting Couples in Brooklyn

When we first caught wind of Jerry Seinfeld's new reality show, The Marriage Ref, he declared, "This is going to be a comedy show; I’m not interested in the reality of it.”

You may have seen a lot of SJP-wannabes yesterday around 18th Street and 6th Avenue, as the extras casting call for the Sex and the City sequel were held. The listing called for "models, celebrity types, upscale socialites, urban clubgoers, gays and lesbians, international types (Middle Eastern, Arabic, Asian, European, British) and professional soccer players" (NYMag has more photos in their slideshow if you can't get enough of what that smorgasbord looked like).

Reality Television Tackles Art World

Reality television will soon confront its latest victim: art. Bravo is now casting for "The Untitled Art Project," which brings Sarah Jessica Parker and her production company, Pretty Matches, together with the Emmy-nominated Magical Elves ("Top Chef," "Project Runway") and Eli Holzman, to produce an hour long creative competition series among contemporary artists. It's just like how all the great artists were discovered. There will be thirteen total aspiring artists competing for a gallery show, money, and more. Each episode will have the artists creating "unique pieces highlighting art's role in everyday life" in everything from sculpture to photography. Get your portfolio together and your beret perfectly situation atop your head, the NYC casting call is July 18th and 19th at White Columns.

Is a sequel to True Life: I'm a Staten Island Girl in the making? A miniseries, perhaps? Maybe Christmas wishes do come true, because the SI Live blog is reporting that MTV is holding a casting call during the busy holiday season at the Staten Island Mall this weekend (more specifically the GUESS store from 2 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday). The network is looking to find "everyday kids [18 to 20 years old] that are fun, cute and lead interesting lives" for a new 20-episode show that begins taping next month. The site also notes that MTV is keeping quiet for now, but "it's safe to say viewers can expect it to be along the lines of the de-funked TRL," as it will feature both pre-filmed and live segments. Staten Island: where MTV shows go when they die? Oh, and Manhattanites, you need not apply—the casting agent specified they don't want your kind. It's like opposite day!

Park Slopers Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard, dubbed New York’s hippest stay-at-home parents by the Times, have joined the cast of Classic Stage Company's Uncle Vanya, to be directed by Austin Pendleton for a January opening. It's the second Chekhov play in a row for Sarsgaard, who's currently on Broadway in an excellent production of The Seagull, and the first time the couple have worked together, aside from a short film. In other stage news, Liza Minelli canceled last night's performance of her new one-woman Broadway show because she was "suffering from dehydration." Neil LaBute's reasons to be pretty will come to Broadway after all, but it's unclear whether Alison Pill will reprise her much buzzed-about role. And one performance of Will Ferrell's hotly anticipated Broadway show, You're Welcome America. A Final Night With George W Bush, will be simulcast on HBO.

It was announced today that the upcoming Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls will star Gilmore Girls actress Lauren Graham! She'll be making her Broadway debut as Miss Adelaide, the fiancée of Nathan Detroit, to be played by Oliver Platt. The Frank Loesser musical originally debuted in 1950; it'll be back in February. In other Broadway casting news, Michael Cerveris and the Off Broadway favorite Paul Sparks have joined the cast of Christopher Shinn's "new interpretation" of Henrik Ibsen's Hedda Gabler at the Roundabout in January. Mary-Louise Parker will play the title role, with Cerveris as her boring husband and Sparks as his academic rival. Also, the less boldface casting was just announced for the anticipated revival of West Side Story in February.

Forget The Dark Knight – the hype is already giving way to disappointment. It’s time to start getting really, really excited about Spider-Man the Musical, which will feature a score by U2’s Bono and the Edge and direction from Julie Taymor of Lion King fame. In May, Marvel Executive Peter Cuneo announced that the show could open as soon as next year, with Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood – Taymor’s stars in Across the Universe – playing Peter Parker and Mary Jane.

Aspiring actors, look now further than the Morgan L stop in Williamsburg for your big break! This flier advertises casting for a little film called: "Niki Gets Lost In BushDick." The plot is pretty simple: Niki stumbles upon a band whilst wandering around "BushDick" and (to put it mildly) ends up "sleeping with" them, all, at once. Copyranter guesses that the band must be indie rock; perhaps some real life Brooklyn band porn names are in order. Yeah, Say Her? The XXX Affair? Either way, can't wait for the soundtrack!

While current Top Chef contestants battle it out in Chicago, the series prepares for its next round of the culinary contest/reality show. Bravo has announced its casting call for the 5th season (New York's open call is May 11th at the Culinary Institute of America in Astor Center):

Chefs with a passion for food, creativity, a thorough knowledge of cooking techniques and trends and oodles of charisma are what we're looking for. We want both self-taught cooks and those who have trained at top culinary schools.
An application and video must be submitted, so check the site for more details. No word yet on where the new season will take place -- but perhaps Top Chef Brooklyn is in order. We can already envision a challenge at Whisk & Ladle or a crossover episode with Williamsburg's Feed Me Show.
