Laptop, Woman's Ashes Stolen From Rental Car

The cremated remains of a Queens woman were stolen along with expensive electronics from a rental car on May 9th, just after the woman's memorial service. Hours after Eileen Dashiell's ashes were packed inside a box and placed in a green tote bag by the crematorium, her daughter, Jeanne Shuff, left the rented van parked outside a relative's house in Mott Haven. The next morning, Shuff found the passenger's side window broken and her laptop, camera, DVD player and mother's ashes gone. She told the Post, "First I lost her. Family, Cops Keep Vigil For Injured Police Officer

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said that the 31-year-old police officer who was struck by a motorcycle while chasing stolen car suspects in Bensonhurst is "still in extremely critical condition... The situation has not changed." Carlos Olmedo, a four-year veteran of the force and father of three, suffered serious brain injuries since being hit on Sunday, and his family and colleagues have been keeping a bedside vigil at the hospital. Brooklyn Cop Remains In "Very Grave Condition"

The police officer struck by a motorcycle while chasing car theft suspects in Bensonhurst early yesterday morning remains in "very grave condition," as Mayor Bloomberg put it. The mayor added that Officer Carlos Olmedo, 31, is "being treated by the best doctors that are here [at Lutheran Medical Center], and at this point I think it's in the hands of God." S.I. Hate Crime Victim Arrested for Alleged Car Theft

On Monday night, the Staten Island Advance reported, "A stolen car crashed at a Stapleton intersection last night, with the three suspects scattering after their reckless driving caused another vehicle to flip over." Now the Advance reports that one suspect who was caught and arrested is 17-year-old Ali Kamara, the teen who was beaten with a metal pipe by four white men on Election Night. Kamera "was charged with grand larceny, possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a vehicle" and may be arraigned today. And all four of Kamera's attackers, who were on an Election Night spree of violence, have pleaded guilty to federal charges. more ›
