Tourist Theresa Shaver was taking a carriage horse ride in Central Park on Sunday afternoon when the horse fell to the ground... and she caught it all on video (you're going to want to turn your volume down!):

Cab Crashes Into Carriage Horse Near Central Park
This morning the Coalition to Ban Horse Drawn Carriages sent over some photos of the aftermath of a carriage horse and cab crash, noting that "carriage horses are accidents waiting to happen—at 2000+ pounds, they become unwitting weapons when spooked and a serious public safety issue. This is not some quaint 18th century beloved tradition." Even the American Girl Place retail chain has canceled the horse-drawn carriage rides they had planned throughout the summer, agreeing that it's inhumane.
Holiday Season Means More Cruelty For Carriage Horses
Life's tough when you're a carriage horse, which is why numerous animal advocacy groups and politicians have passed new bills to change the industry, or suggested to do away with it altogether. But December means there's an influx of tourists who want an oh-so-quaint ride around Central Park with the pretty pony, leaving many horses exhausted and malnourished.
Video: Horse Drawn Hummer
So, this guy Jeremy Dean converted a Hummer, latched it on to some horses, and took it for a spin around Central Park. First off: calm down... this is just a work of art he calls “Back to Futurama." Secondly, it doesn't have anything to do with torturing horses or proving any points about the cruelty of the carriage horse industry—rather, as Animal points out, it's a "horse-drawn testament to the collapse of the auto industry."
Boozing Buggy Driver Busted!
A Central Park carriage horse driver was busted with a boozy lunch, according to the NY Post. 49-year-old Saverio Colarusso was spotted drinking a Michelob Light on the job by Special Agent Joseph Pentangelo of the ASPCA back in January, and the organization said yesterday that he's been suspended for 30 days and was fined $175. He claimed he had two beers with his meal that day, and handed the agent the empty bottles. Yep, while back in the day drunken sleigh rides through Central Park may have been all rage, these days it's definitely going to be frowned upon.
Who's The Biggest "Hellraiser" On Our Streets?
As the NY Post continues their takedown of the pedicab industry today, we wonder who causes the most trouble on the city's streets.
Carriage Horse Licks Car! Woman Outraged!
An unusual complaint about carriage horses was sent in to the NY Times' Metropolitan.
A woman tells of her harrowing parking experience, saying she was about to back in to a spot on Central Park West, across from her apartment building, but "as soon as I put the car in reverse to parallel park, I noticed a horse and buggy..."
Cab Collides With Horse & Buggy on UES
Oh dear. Word just came in over the newswire that a horse and buggy has been struck on East 60th Street and 5th Avenue. The report says there are "2 aided at this point," and we'll update as soon as more information becomes available. Hopefully the horse is okay, but either way this will surely give animal rights activists more evidence that horses shouldn't be lugging tourists around the crowded streets of NYC.
Couple Protests Horse-Drawn Carriage on Wedding Day
The bride said, "Knowing that someday soon horse-drawn carriages in New York will be a thing of the past would be the most wonderful wedding present I can imagine. We're asking other couples who are getting married to steer clear of horse-drawn carriages and avoid turning their joyous wedding day into a day of misery for an abused horse."
