At the tail end of an especially gloomy afternoon, the lights of Jane’s Carousel exuded a warm, happy glow at the inaugural spin in Brooklyn Bridge Park today. Visitors from Brooklyn and beyond stopped by to take a close look at the delicate landscape paintings and ornately jeweled horses—and to finally take a $2 ride. (It's free for children under 3 accompanied by an adult, and while there's no extra charge for overweight customers, there are some restrictions—see below.)

Central Park Carousel Was Disgusting Mess...Before Trump Took Over
We've finally found something that Donald Trump has impacted in an absolutely positive way: according to a new report, the Central Park carousel was a filthy, unsanitary mess before our future president took it over a year ago. See, he can credibly run a business and not run it into the ground!
Queens Carousel Cast In Hollywood Role
Is a Queens carousel going to get a new lease on life? Probably not, but it is going to have a starring role in The Sitter, a new movie with Jonah Hill currently filming around New York. The movie is said to be a loose remake of the 1987 movie Adventures in Babysitting, and a publicist involved told the Daily News that the Forest Park Carousel is "a major set piece for us." The 100-year-old city-owned carousel has been sitting dormant for two years as the Parks Department tries to find an operator to run it. Until that day, residents say they're excited it "will be showcased in a Hollywood film." Great, but can we all agree that any kind of remake of the near-perfect classic Adventures in Babysitting is a bad idea?
DUMBO Locals Protest Pretty Carousel
Jane Walentas (hitched to developer David Walentas) has been fighting to bring her antique carousel into Empire Fulton Ferry Park, which is currently closed off as it faces a merger with the new Brooklyn Bridge Park. She's happy to pay for the installation, so who doesn't want a free pretty carousel sprucing up area filled with modern day metallic orbs that burn children? The people leaving these flyers around, that's who. Curbed spotted and transcribed the opponent's posted protest, which reads in part:
Central Park Carousel Operator Canned
A year after carousel operator New York One LLC abandoned the Queens Forest Park merry-go-round, claiming there wasn't enough foot traffic, the Parks Department has terminated their contract to run the famed Central Park Carousel. They told the NY Post the operator has failed to mainten and clean the ride up to their standards. The company will be out by Monday, and they may not have anyone else to run it for another month.
Marvin Sylvor, Famed Carousel Designer, Dies at 75
World renowned merry-go-round designer Marvin Sylvor has saddled up for the great carousel in the sky following a kidney failure. He was 75. The Bronx-born Sylvor’s love for the fanciful rides dated back to his childhood, when his father, hell-bent to get to Rockaway beach, would always refuse to stop so the young Sylvor could ride a carousel near the Marine Park Bridge.
B&B Carousell Takes a Ride to Ohio
Last fall it was announced that consultants were being sought out for the restoration and reconstruction of the historic 1919 B&B Carousell of Coney Island, which was bought at auction by The City of New York in 2005. The Brooklyn Eagle reports that yesterday the carousel was finally in the hands of experts as "fine art movers arrived at the Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT) to delicately pack up Coney Island’s 89-year-old Bishoff & Brienstein Carousell. The entire team of colorful antique horses and other carousel components will be temporarily transferred to Marion, Ohio, where it will be meticulously restored by a nationally recognized expert in the field."
