Frog Eyes and Sunset Rubdown (despite having border problems) will be taking over Mercury Lounge two nights this week. Sunset Rubdown is Wolf Parade keyboardist Spencer Krug's side project, and he produced a beautiful album this year entitled, Shut Up I Am Dreaming. It got an 8.6 on Pitchfork, just a few points below last years Wolf Parade rating. Anyway, point is...it's good. If you go to the show tonight you can catch Beirut as an opener, see if his 2nd time out impresses the bloggers a bit more than his last show. Wednesday night you'll see Bedroom Walls opening.

We are tired and just a teeny bit hungover, so we'll keep this short. Thanks to everyone for coming out last night! And of course to Bravo Silva, Snowden, the Cloud Room and the Capitol Years for playing some great sets and keeping us on our feet - and the deejays for keeping us on dancing (well, we were dancing on the inside).
Come join us TONIGHT at our Movable Hype Anniversary Show. Just a year ago we threw our first show/concert/party at the Knitting Factory. Since then we've actually thrown 4 more there, tonight is the 5th. In addition we've had a slightly smaller version of the show at Pianos and one comedy (Laughable Hype) show at Tonic. Technically that means this is lucky number 7, but we'll still call it 5 (because we never were very good with numbers.)
"Last year Elton John declared that Rufus Wainwright was the greatest songwriter on the planet. Quite a profound statement from the king of pop himself. This was presumably based on hearing 2004's Want One, followed earlier this year by the groundbreaking opus, Want Two." Elly Roberts goes on to say that Wainwright's recent show at The Lowry was "An epic night, and a high watermark of a musician on top of his game, who has single headedly changed the possibilities of popular music." Our hometown (via Rhinebeck, New York and Canada) hero headlines the Beacon Theater two nights in row this week. We're especially excited about Wednesday's show. Regina Spektor is opening.
Show starts at 8pm sharp!
We just got word in that two of our favorite comedians will be hosting the Movable Hype 5.0 Anniversary Special Show (we're trying to make that title as long as possible)...so we thought we'd share the news with you:
So we've been waiting to confirm our last band for Movable Hype 5.0 and we can now do so. Since we wanted to bring back 3 acts from previous shows we chose our favorites, one of which was so busy touring Europe with the Editors and We Are Scientists, playing shows with Maximo Park and hosting Mtv's Subterranean that it took them a while to fit us in, but alas, they finally have...so here's who you'll see on November 2nd:
Tickets for Movable Hype 5.0 go on sale tomorrow! You can buy them here at the stroke of midnight tonight.
Gothamist won't be at Southpaw later, as we totally flaked on getting tickets to Tinkle tonight. So if you're attending please let us know how awesome it was.
