A Guyanese woman on her way to a citizenship ceremony was critically injured after a livery cab hit her in downtown Brooklyn. Queens resident Shantta Raghunana had been crossing the street when the car careened into her on Cadman Plaza West. Raghuana's family was with her during the accident; her daughter said, "The car just came out of nowhere, picked her up and threw her." The car's path ended when it crashed into scaffolding: It......

Yesterday afternoon, a woman drove her car into a bus shelter in Brooklyn. Luckily the bus shelter was just completed or else there could have been even more injuries than the five that were reported. WABC 7 reported that the driver was double parked when another car needed to get by. The second car's driver "sat on his horn until the woman in the Maxima moved from the passenger seat and got behind the......

While last week was definitely Long Island City week on Gossip Girl, this week's version of the "exclusive" Upper East Side dropped squarely in Brooklyn Heights. The opening scene, featuring some sort of perverted choir singing Fergie's "Glamorous," was shot on location at Packer Collegiate Institute's 3rd floor chapel. The gang revisited Packer later on at the contrived 'Ivy' reception, which went down in the school's backyard garden. From there, the gang didn't have to......

Possibly on a Brooklyn-bound F train: Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The Mayor's "bullpen-style" offices need some new paint, a new carpet and a few other fixes, so Bloomberg and his staffers are temporarily relocating to work out of the Office of Emergency Management headquarters in Brooklyn on Cadman Plaza East. The Mayor explained, “Somebody’s going to kill themselves with all of the rips in the carpet." Nice to know that he's concerned with personal injury lawsuits......

Terrifying: the entire lawn at Cadman Plaza has been astroturfed! [Via Brownstoner.] Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a bank robbery in Staten Island, a suicidal member of service on the George Washington Bridge, and a perp search down by the Manhattan Bridge. Foreign tourists are bum-rushing New York because of the weak dollar: "For example, the Microsoft Zune player - a rival to Apple's iPod - sells for $442 in London but can be......

- There are 12 bids for Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Villlage; the Bloomberg administration, so far, is just waiting to see what happens - Watch out boutique shoppers - a man is targetting stores on the Upper East and West Sides - What happens when the leader of an African rebel army asks you to take him out on the town (for starters, you say yes) - World Trade Center dust could cause cancer -......

Like that view up there? Sure you do. We bear good news about it. Soon enough, if the Parks Department gets the bids it expects, you should be able to sit on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and enjoy the awesomeness of that view of the Gotham skyline while you read Gothamist on your laptop. Why? Because on top of the free WiFi that should be appearing in Central and Prospect Parks this spring the......

A lucky man survived a car crash and falling from the BQE yesterday. Nicklaus Emmanuel, a UPS loader, was a passenger in an Acura that "spun out of control from the left lane of the BQE just past the Cadman Plaza exit about 1:30PM." The smoky car continued to roll towards the guardrail, and when Emmanuel climbed out, he fell 30 feet to Furman Street, landing feet first. Feet first! The Daily News says he......

While some city buildings are considering "greening" their roofs with gardens (Curbed as a rendering of one roof garden for Silvercup Studios), we hear there's a protest tonight to "openly mock" a plan to put AstroTurf on Cadman Plaza Park in Brooklyn. Reader Chris says, "As dumb ideas go, this one is pretty striking. Why not put up some plastic trees so we'll have greenery in winter." Cue the Radiohead! Just thinking about putting AstroTurf......
