Drunken Polish prank, something more sinister, or just tomatoes that fell off a truck? Kurt Strahm sent us over some images of tomato torture in Greenpoint's McCarren Park. He spotted a strange scene on Wednesday morning with tomatoes lying in the street, being crushed by the passing traffic. That's not so strange, but seeing tomatoes impaled on the fence surrounding the park...very strange.

We were tempted this morning to throw up a pretty sky photo from the Gothamist Contribute pool and not write anything because there's not much weather to discuss. The week is starting out cool but will get warmer. By Thursday we should be seeing maximum temperatures in the upper-70s to around 80 degrees as the high pressure system that will dominate the weather this week moves further eastward. Skies are expected to stay mostly clear through the weekend and probably well into next week.
This week's weather is all about the waves. The snake-like long wave pattern of air circulation well above the earth's surface is going to shift in mid-week. Today and tomorrow the circulation has dipped to our south, allowing all this cold air to be here. By Thursday it looks like we will be warming up under the crest of the wave. Even though today, tomorrow and Wednesday will be a bit warmer than the weekend, we'll still have below normal high temperatures in the mid-40s. Once the circulation shifts the weather will warm up. Thursday, the first full day of spring, and Friday should see highs in the mid-50s to lower-60s. That should get rid of the slush!
