Yesterday, the Daily News and Newsday offered editorials endorsing Hillary Clinton for Tuesday's NY State Democratic Primary. While the News calls both Clinton and Barack Obama are "compelling choices," disagrees with both candidates' strategies for ending the war in Iraq and finds Obama inspirational, the News ultimately finds Clinton to be the "stronger" of the two, because of her experience. There are concerns about Bill Clinton's recent involvement - and potential involvement if his wife is elected:

Based on her experience and her service on behalf of New York, The News backs Hillary Clinton in the full expectation that from here on out she and her husband will abide by standards of fairness - and, more important, that she intends to draw firm, clear lines should she make it to the White House.

Newsday also chooses Clinton for her experience, citing her "hard work, smarts, bipartisanship, pragmatism and bulldog determination" which "are important for the next president." But Newsday adds, "Clinton could do with a bit of Obama's spirit in that regard. He has taught us that hope matters and that many in the nation are eager for leaders who will let them share in the movement for change."

Update: The NYPD will have to be on alert on Monday now? Earlier, WNBC reported that the grand jury investigating the fatal police shooting of Sean Bell has reached a verdict but will wait until Monday to release it. But now a defense lawyer says the jury voted to indict three of the detectives involved: Michael Oliver who fired 31 shots, Gescard F. Isnora who fired the first of 11 shots, and Marc Cooper. Cooper's lawyer Paul Martin said, "I am disappointed with the grand jury’s decision but this is just the first stage of a long process and I am confident that once all the facts are considered by a jury of Detective Cooper’s peers, that he will be exonerated of all charges."

Hillary Clinton, the junior Senator from New York, make the cover of the local papers after announcing her entry into the 2008 presidential race, by way of starting an exploratory committee. The NY Post proclaims Hill's "Chat" is in the Ring, referring to how she, on her web video, says she's "beginning a conversation" with American voters. The Daily News says, Hillary makes herstory, noting the history she'd make if she were elected as the first female President. But Newsday gets straight to to point and wonders if she can win. The NY Times puts the news on the front page, but there's no picture; however, the Times says that with Clinton in the mix, the 2008 race is "truly under way."

As delays snarled Laguardia, JFK, and Newark with news that British authorities had stopped a terrorist plot to blow up airliners flying the U.S., New York City's security level remained at "elevated" - which is where it's been since September 11, 2001. Governor Pataki increased state police, Port Authority police, and National Guard presence at the airports, and said, "I want to assure all New Yorkers that we have and will continue to provide a heightened level of security, and I urge all of you to be vigilant, but to go about your normal routines. I encourage all citizens to remain alert with regard to the threat of terrorism. The eyes and ears of the public are one of the most important resources we have to help law enforcement officials deter and prevent acts of terrorism." Mayor Bloomberg noted that since the threat was focused on airports, subway security wouldn't have to be raised. And did you know that Senator Schumer is stuck at Heathrow?
