Young Queens Teacher Dies in Bus Accident

26-year-old teacher Hwi Wu died last night after she was struck by a city bus while crossing the street. The accident took place near the end of the line for the Q58 bus outside the Myrtle-Wyckoff subway station, right on the border of the Bushwick section of Brooklyn and the Ridgewood section of Queens. Wu was crossing Palmetto Street when the bus struck her and trapped her underneath it. A witness told NY1, "The bus was turning, when it was turning, it hit her first on the left and she stumbled and she fell on the floor, and it ran over both her legs." The spot of the accident is a complicated one, six-way intersection where the elevated M train meets the underground L train and more than one bus line terminates. The Q58 in question appears to have been out of service and no charges are expected for the driver. Wu came over from China in 2002. had graduated from LaGuardia College last year and was working with autistic children at a Queens day care center.

Brooklyn Bus Drags Man to His Death

A young man in Brooklyn died last night in a freakish accident after being dragged 100 feet by a city bus. The 21-year-old man emerged from in between two parked cars and then was struck by an out of service B67 bus that was heading back to the depot in Kensington. Witnesses watched as the man got hooked onto the bus as the unsuspecting driver kept moving. One onlooker told the press, "He was trapped behind the back tire. He was breathing. You could see smoke coming out of his mouth because it was so cold." The driver of the bus remained at the scene and is not expected to face any charges. Witnesses said he could be seen crying as he paced back and forth inside the bus while the man was being tended to. The victim was rushed to Maimonides Hospital where he died a short time later.

Two people remain hospitalized after a tour bus heading toward Niagara Falls from Chinatown toppled over 40 miles west of the George Washington Bridge along I-80 in Roxbury, NJ yesterday morning. Over 40 passengers were aboard the bus when they found themselves flipped over into an embankment along Route 80 in Morris County after the bus was rear-ended by another charter. Another 20 people received medical attention but were discharged with minor bumps and bruises. The bus had left Chinatown about an hour prior on what was supposed to be a two-day tour. It was owned by Atlantic Express and chartered by Paradise Tours.
