There's something about macho men acting nuts when being interviewed about football. Joe Namath was extremely bizarre a few years ago when ESPN's Suzy Kolber spoke to him during a Jets game, with Namath saying he wanting to kiss her. And last night, Burt Reynolds slapped a CBS assistant producer during the Chelsea premiere of The Longest Yard. Watch the video here, and you'll see Reynolds get steamed at the hapless producer who admitted he didn't see the 1974 original. Damn Paramount for not screening the original! And the producer was dumb enough to tell the truth - when you're on the red carpet talking to celebs, you've gotta vamp and make up stuff or else they'll take their fame out on you! While his spokesman says Reynolds "playfully tapped (the producer) on the cheek, as if to say, 'Well, that's not very nice,'" and was "kidding," but if that's a playful tap, then Gothamist will never make fun of his hair to his face or mention how boring Evening Shade was ever.

This year's ads were lame, considering that we have no idea what 90% of the ads were for. Sure, there was beer, but what beer? And Ameriquest - thanks for sponsoring the halftime show and everything, but we have no idea what you do. People who work in the ad business or write about the ad business like the FedEx ad that mocked the conventions of ads: There's nothing like Burt Reynolds in a tight leather jacket, a dancing and talking (yet not masturbating) bear, and subtitles that says "FedEx is better than everyone else." Oh, wait, message got lost; we were just obsessed with Burt's rug. Gothamist is also confused about Tom Cruise in The War of the Worlds; if there are aliens, are you sure it's not a Scientology movie? Finally, let's talk the Degree Mama's Boy ad; how disturbing was it when the Mama doll was pushing the Mama Boy in the shopping cart?

Ad Age coos over what they think is the most successful product placement this summer: Absolut Vodka's critical role in a Sex and the City plot line between Kim Cattrall and Jason Lewis. No money changed hands, which doesn't surprise Gothamist - you cannot buy publicity like this. Patrick O'Neill, creative director of TBWA/Chiat Day, created the ad, and was "inspired" by seminal pin-up posters of "Farrah Fawcett in a swimsuit and Burt Reynolds on a shaggy rug." Also, TBWA "." Love handles! Jason Lewis has love handles? They must be imaginary ones.
