A group of masked ATM burglars who are accused of perpetrating 62 thefts in Brooklyn and Queens over the last 14 months have been caught. Four suspects (a fifth one was already in custody) are accused of stealing over $200K; police say they used a signature "splash and dash" technique, splashing the crime scene with bleach, to destroy DNA evidence. And just as we predicted, the robbers admitted to cops that they were inspired in that respect by the 2010 Ben Affleck movie, The Town.

After Burglaries, Brooklyn Heights Decides to Lock Front Doors
It's a dark day for Brooklyn Heights, where the idyllic brownstone utopia is being forced to acknowledge that there are disreputable blackguards in this world with less than noble intentions. There have been five broad daylight burglaries in the Heights in the past four days, and each robbery shares a common theme: the thieves targeted residences where the front door or window was left unlocked. Anytown, USA just lost its innocence.
Has The Ninja Burglar Come Back To Staten Island?
Could a reprise of one of the greatest Staten Island crime stories (unrelated to the mob) ever be happening right now? The police are investigating a series of burglaries at homes in posh areas, and the Staten Island Advance's headline says it all: "Shades of the Staten Island Ninja: Cops group 6 jobs since July in house-burglary pattern."
East Village Burglaries Have Residents On Edge
Police are seeking a suspect believed to be involved in nine burglaries in the East Village on East 9th, 11th, and 13th Streets, St. Marks Place, and Avenues B and C. According to MyFoxNY, "The brazen burglar has struck at least nine apartments from March 10 through April 3, police said. He even hit one building twice in one day -- once in the morning and once at night."
Burglaries Up in Well-Off Neighborhoods
The Post looks at the NYPD's recent crime data and notes burglaries have risen up to 25% "in some of the wealthiest neighborhoods." While burglaries have dropped citywide by 8.9%, there has been a 26.8% rise on the Upper East Side, 20.2% in Midtown East (including Murray Hill), 24.5% increase on the Upper West Side, 19.2% in Chelsea and 26.2% in Greenwich Village. Community Board 2 (located in the Village) Chairman Brad Hoylman said, "We've heard from community residents who are concerned that resources are being directed out of the neighborhood...This is not just anecdotal evidence. There's an upswing in crime and we need to organize ourselves."
