One Killed, Two Injured In East Flatbush Shooting

Early this morning, some sort of dispute led to gun violence on East 93rd Street in Brooklyn—and the gunfire continued at Brookdale University Hospital. According to the Daily News, a "17-year-old boy died at the scene" at E. 93rd Street near Avenue B, while a 22-year-old was shot in the leg managed to go Downstate hospital. However, a 32-year-old who was injured was driven to Brookdale, where "another vehicle rolled up and someone inside started firing. Police sources said he was hit at least once at the hospital. Emergency workers put him into an ambulance and carted him off to Kings County Hospital where he's listed in critical condition. Police said he was shot in the leg and groin." A police source told the News, "What a gun battle. They have been watching too much TV," while a resident near the scene heard the gunshots, "I rolled out of bed onto the ground to protect myself. Bullets penetrate windows, you know. We hear gunshots a lot in the summertime."

Patrick Venetek, the cop whose service weapon wound up shooting through the ceiling of his downstairs neighbors' apartment and striking an 18-month-old's arm, gave further details on how the incident occurred. Perhaps to the relief of Porcellini's six brothers and sisters, Venetek has been stripped of his badge and gun at this time and is on modified duty.

The NYPD detectives working the homicide investigation of Carol Simon have identified a suspect in her killing, although they are not publicizing his identity. Simon was shot as she was returning to her car where her son was waiting for her at a gas station. The killing occurred Saturday evening in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, as an argument between two men turned violent and one of the men pulled a gun.

The family of Carol Simon is grieving after she was killed while walking on Eastern Parkway near Bedford around 5:30PM on Saturday. Simon, a 35-year-old nurse's assistant, had been on her way to take her son to swimming lessons when an argument between two men became violent and one pulled out a gun.

As mentioned in Extra, Extra yesterday, 54-year-old Eunice Washington was killed when a livery cab driver ran over her - and it may have been on purpose. WCBS 2 had initially reported that the driver may have argued with Washington's 29-year-old daughter Santana over the fare, but now it turns out that the argument was more about the driver's rudeness.

Some more details have emerged about the stabbing of 20-year-old Gerlin Collado on the platform of the New Lots subway station early Sunday morning. Collado, a deli worker and mechanic, and his brother Henry Collado were attacked, but still got on the train at New Lots. They rode the train for one stop, getting out at Livonia Avenue, and then called the police.

Police are investigating whether a black man was hit by a car because he was trying to get away from assailants. The incident occured in Sheepshead Bay-Gerritsen Beach area. WABC 7 reports that two white men were "seen fleeing the man's body on the Belt Parkway after he was struck by a car" - and the car didn't stop. Police believe the victim and the two men got into a fight; since the man was hit at the west end of Plum Beach (which is a gay cruising spot), detectives "were trying to determine if either race or sexual orientation was the motive for the attack."
