Rafael Casiano, the off-duty housing officer who crashed his car last week, seriously injuring his partner, and then blew a (legal) .032 on a breathalyzer test nine hours later, has been forced by a judge to hand over his driver's license.
"Drunk Driving" Cop Loses His License
Off-Duty Crash Cop's 9-Hour Wait For DWI Test Investigated
Yesterday, it was reported that an off-duty police officer hit a divider on the Bronx River Parkway, overturning the vehicle that held him and his partner. Though police officers at the scene determined that Office Rafael Casiano had been drinking—he admitted he "had a few drinks"—he was not given a Breathalyzer until nine hours later. Now the NYPD says Internal Affairs is investigating that delay.
Pol Drove Off Bronx River Parkway Onto Police Parking Lot
An up-and-coming Democratic politician from the Bronx drove off of the Bronx River Parkway, allegedly after a fight with a lady friend, yesterday morning. Bronx district leader Michael Robles, 28, and a 22-year-old female companion survived the 30-foot fall without a scratch. The car landed on top of a pickup truck in the parking lot of Bronx Police District 12. Or as one commenter comically put it at Thee Rant, "He deliberately kamikazied the District 12 parking lot as a protest against the NYPD!!"
Police Ignore Off-Duty Cop's Drunk Driving Victims
It's been nearly four weeks since an off-duty cop with a BAC of 0.16 smashed his car on the Bronx River Parkway, killing himself and another cop and injuring four passengers, and the victims have yet to hear anything from the cops. The Daily News talked to the victims and their families, and claims the "plight of the injured women has all but been ignored."
Cop's Blood Alcohol Was Double Legal Limit During Crash
Those blood alcohol tests finally came back, and it can safely be concluded that the off-duty cop that crashed on the Bronx River Parkway was intoxicated at the time. In fact, Hoyong Kim's blood alcohol content was 0.16—twice the legal limit. Kim and Officer Edwin Paulino had allegedly been out until 5 a.m. at a birthday party, where Kim was named the designated driver.
Cops Out Drinking Until 5 a.m. Before Fatal Crash
Officers Hoyoung Kim and Edwin Paulino, who were killed in a crash on the Bronx River Parkway, had been at a surprise party thrown for another cop before getting in their car with four other passengers. The party, thrown by Kenneth Ingram, was so loud it frustrated neighbors. One complained to the Daily News, saying, "The music and noise of the party didn't end until 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning. They were drinking. It kept me awake. My neighbor said he called the police, but nobody came." Apparently they were all next door.
Off-Duty Cop Was Designated Driver in Fatal Crash
According to one survivor, NYPD Officer Hoyoung Kim was supposed to have been the designated driver, but was "slightly intoxicated" when he crashed on the Bronx River Parkway on Saturday, killing himself and another off-duty cop and injuring four passengers. Police say blood alcohol tests have not been completed, but are blaming the crash on "driver inattentiveness," saying Kim wasn't paying attention and realized he was about to pass his exit.
Off-Duty Cops May Have Been Drinking Before Fatal Crash
Yesterday's crash on the Bronx River Parkway that killed two off-duty NYPD cops and left four in critical condition may have been caused by drunk driving, according to the surviving passengers. Edwin Paulino, 25, and Kim Hoyoung, 32, of Harlem's 32nd precinct, were pinned inside the car after it slammed into a guard rail. One survivor, Melina Ramirez, suffered a broken leg and a fractured spine, and told relatives the cops had been drinking. Her sister told the Daily News, "I asked her, 'Did you ask if they were okay to drive?' And she told me he said, 'I'm a little bit tipsy, but I'm okay to drive.'"
Two Cops Killed In Bronx River Parkway Crash
Two cops were killed and four civilians were injured when a 2009 Nissan Altima overturned near 233rd Street early this morning. Five passengers were ejected from the car after it slammed into the guard rail, and one was pinned inside. The two officers were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while the four others were rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where they are in serious but stable condition. Police closed to road for hours after the crash to investigate, and initial reports say the plain clothes officers were involved in a chase when they crashed.
Crappy Roads Cost Drivers Time, Money
Every year, New York City drivers lose about 44 hours of their time and $1,900 of their money to poorly maintained roads, according to a new study. The average motorist pays $638 to repair automotive damage caused by shoddy streets, while the rest of the money goes towards "wasted gas, medical fees and lost productivity," the reports indicates.

'A' Train Celebrates 75th Anniversary
It was originally named the 8th Avenue Subway, but the 'A' train turns 75 today, having opened September 10th, 1932. Officials are holding a ceremony at the line's northernmost station––Inwood/207th St.––and will be running six antique railcars from the 1930s during the day to commemorate the event. This is more than the Eighth Ave. Subway garnered on its opening day: Back in 1932, just before midnight, transit workers simply dropped chains blocking access to turnstiles up and down the line and riders were free to pay the five cent fare at any of the original 28 stations between 207th St. and Chambers St., a total distance of 12 miles.
Bronx Car Crash Kills 5 Relatives
A horrible car accident unraveled in the Bronx yesterday afternoon: A 1994 Acura Legend somehow jumped the median of the Bronx River Parkway, killing five of its seven passengers. Four members of the Gardner family of the Bronx - Derrick, 40, and daughter Asia (some reports say Derrick and ASia were from Mississippi), 8; brothers Jamel, 14, and Keywann, 23 (Derrick was their uncle) - and relative Brandon Daye, 18, of Mississippi were killed. Two other passengers were injured, including Jamel and Keywann's brother Howie. Three other cars became involved in the accident, but the injuries to the nine drivers and passengers were minor. It's unclear how the Acura, driven by Keywann, lost control, but the Post describes what seems to have happened near the East 177th exit of the Bronx River Parkway:
After their green Acura Legend slowed down for heavy traffic in the southbound lanes, Keywann, the driver, somehow lost control of the car, which ran onto the concrete divider, police said.more ›
