Because taking the subway at rush hour isn't annoying enough, yesterday Occupy Wall Street protesters fanned out to various subway lines across the city to bring their message to commuters, in hopes of leading them, Pied Piper-style, up to the big rally in Foley Square. Over at the Broadway Junction station, on the border of Bedford-Stuyvesant and East New York in Brooklyn, the "people's mic" was turned up to 11:

That's Some Crazy Subway Wilding
The unofficial first and second rules of sane subway rides might be "Do not talk to anyone" and "Don't look anyone in the eye." The Smoking Gun found a crazy video of an adult being beat up by a group of teenage girls on an A train. The adult, who is white, was somehow roped into a shouty exchange with the girls, who are black, and high school student Kadejra Holmes filmed the exchange,...
Teen Dies After Shot While Looking Out Window
A Brooklyn teenager died yesterday after his family took him off life support earlier this week. Tavin Alves Clarke was shot in the face between 2 and 3 a.m. Tuesday and was found slumped by the window. Police believe that Clarke stuck his head out the window when he heard gunfire and one of the shots hit him. It was his five-year-old brother who found him by the window and ran crying to their mother and sister.
J Platform Smoking Summons Causes Cop Slashing
There was another attack on cops last night, this time at the Broadway Junction J train station. Police officers were trying to give a summons to a man who was smoking. When they asked his friend Hugo Hernandez for ID, Hernandez slashed police officer Angel Cruz in the face. Cruz and his partner fired at Hernandez multiple times.
$1.3 Billion for Brooklyn's Starrett City
The country's largest federally subsidized housing development was sold today for $1.3 billion. Berkshire LLC bought Starrett City, and Starrett City Associates say the money would be deposited today.
T.G.I. Broken-Down-L-Train Friday!
Are some of your co-workers straggling into work late? Are some of your friends mysteriously late in appearing on an instant messaging program - and all those friends happen to be the ones who live along the L? Reader Adam sent us this picture of the L train that broke down at the Montrose stop this morning: Basically a lot of smoke and angry people! When we asked Adam how managed to get to work (did he wait for another train?), he said:
Luckily my roomates had friends in the city who drove us all to work.more ›
L Train, the MTA Punching Bag
Yesterday afternoon, an L train derailed when it left the train yards in Canarsie, and while service was disrupted only between Broadway Junction and Rockaway, last night's commute for all other points was a bit suckier than usual. Service is back to normal this morning, but with 10 minute delays (which must mean something more along the lines of "whenever it gets here, it gets here"). This is just another knock that L train riders are getting, what with the many weekends the L is out of service in order for the MTA to improve the line. Next, we expect the MTA to find a Hellmouth underneath the Montrose stop.
