British Airway's High Life publication is pointing their passengers towards... Bushwick. Their big sell includes mentions of "local heroes the Vivian Girls" (who are clearly writing for this in-flight publication on the side), the Todd P venue Market Hotel, Goodbye Blue Monday, Ad Hoc and, you know, bars and stuff. (They missed the new mini golf course!) They note that all the previously dubbed "cool spots" in the city have already lost their "hip currency" after being found out, so this time they hope to be ahead of the curve. Will the Brits be sold? Once that plane lands and they're so over the Manhattan scene, the article notes that "Bushwick is just nine stops on the L train from Union Square, but it’s a 20-minute time warp to a golden age of New York cool... capture some of the adventurous spirit of the Manhattan galleries of the 1980s." The supersonic Concorde jet that spent 30 years flying fiercely through the skies went unharmed until retiring in Brooklyn, where the president of the foundation that operates the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, Bill White, was charged with overseeing its care. After just two years in the borough, The NY Times reports it got it's signature needle-shaped nose taken off by a truck.

A Concorde that is owned by a British airline, was hit by a truck that was hauling equipment from a Jamaican music and soccer festival. The truck clipped the distinctive nose cone off the parked Anglo-French jet about 3 a.m. last Monday, prompting an impassioned uproar among the jet’s band of enthusiasts.

The nose, of course, is the most physically dominant part of the jet, and is what makes it distinctive from others; The Times notes that it can be lowered to 12.5 degrees to help with takeoffs and landings. Concorde fans have united and blamed New York for the carelessness; when the jet had to leave the Intrepid, White housed it at Aviator Sports at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn for $15K/month.

John and Annette Ferranti certainly did not feel they were in good hands with the Allstate Insurance Company, after Allstate refused to pay their homeowners damage claim they insist was caused by an Air France Concorde jet. The insurance company, which had wanted to appeal appeal a jury award of $1.15 million to the Mill Basin couple, finally agreed to pay the Ferrantis $995,000.

If you see the couple at right - you know, an older British couple, possibly overdressed by wearing sashes and tiaras, and surrounded by security and a press corps - walking around New York City, your eyes aren't deceiving you. Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, are visiting America. Today they are in Philadelphia, but will take a private train to New York and visit the Harlem Children's Zone to see the Promise Academy and other programs. Harlem Children's Zone founder Geoffrey Canada said, "We're looking forward to talking with them about the rebirth of Harlem and our role in that, as well as discussing our agency's plans for the future."

British intellgience says they have stopped a plot involving bombing flights bound for the U.S. today. British authorities have arrested over twenty people connected to the plot. Apparently the bombs would be carried in "hand luggage," leading airports to cancel flights and start screening passengers by hand. As a result, the Department of Homeland Security has raised the aviation sector's threat level for flights between the US and UK; further, "Due to the nature of the threat revealed by this investigation, we are prohibiting any liquids, including beverages, hair gels, and lotions from being carried on the airplane."

A terrible way for British Airways to end 2005: Five minutes after taking off, a 747's engine caught fire and had to return to JFK last night. Air traffic controllers actually saw the fire and called firefighters, but the pilot extinguished the fire himself (special chemicals!). Some people in the area saw the fire at the end of the plane!
