Poster Child has finally brought a planter box to New York City! This dwarf pine is now planted outside of the Bedford Avenue L stop in Williamsburg; he explains his project: "If you are new to these FlyerPlanterboxes the idea is to take the empty & disused newspaper and flyer boxes that litter our sidewalks and put them to a better use than say trashcan or Space-Filler." And check out that newspaper dispenser, it's from The National, which debuted in January of 1990 and folded 18 months later. He notes, "this empty, useless box has somehow managed to consume valuable sidewalk space in New York for 16 odd years."

Broadway is suffering, people! This summer attendance was down 9.3%, compared with the same period a year ago. Even with more expensive tickets, box office grosses were down 2.9%, to just under $290.9 million. So producer Ken Davenport isn't just being a drama queen when he tells Crain's, "We have far fewer butts in seats, and that concerns me. This summer wasn't good, and we're on target for a drop at the end of this season." Davenport produced four shows on Broadway last season but this fall he's only doing one—David Mamet's Oleanna, a two-hander starring Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles. Other producers are hoping celebs like Daniel Craig, Jude Law, and, ugh, Catherine Zeta-Jones can bring the butts back.

After narrowly avoiding having their liquor license application shot down by the local Community Board last week, the owners of decadent burlesque club The Box have come forward to deny allegations made by two former employees, the Porcelain TwinZ. You may recall how the duo (famous for their "Twincest" routine) accused co-owner Simon Hammerstein (pictured) of sexual harassment, arranging prostitution at the club and encouraging drug use. (Not to mention letting his dog shit in the dressing room.) Now Hammerstein has finally commented, telling the Times, "I know the shows here are sexy and outrageous and transgressive, but that’s the show. That’s not the way we run our business." According to Grub Street, that business may be in for more trouble after last week's visit from the Health Department.
