Everything's coming up rosé on Staten Island: on the heels of the new aquarium unveiling in the ferry terminal, plans for the island’s first vineyard are coming into focus. Borough President James Molinaro (pictured, right) has pledged $2 million for the project, which will establish a 2 acre vineyard and demonstration winery at the Staten Island Botanical Garden.

Diane Sawyer Calls Mayor Bloomberg a "Munchkin"...
...and a thousand Photoshop files were launched! Diane Sawyer may be a veteran journalist and may seem totally unflappable, but even she has totally embarrassing moments. This morning, during a segment unveiling Good Morning America's new holiday windows from the New York Botanical Gardens, she called Mayor Bloomberg a "munchkin." Really: “As a little munchkin, did you come to New York?” To be fair, she was asking Bloomberg whether he visited New York during...
Stinky Corpse Flower to Bloom in the Bronx
There's a new Bronx (Stink) Bomber! Lehman College's Teaching and Research Greenhouses have grown an amorphophallus titanium [sic] plant (more colloquially known as the corpse flower because it smells like rotting flesh) and it will bloom by Monday night. The flower usually takes 10-20 years to grow in nature, but with nutrients from greenhouse workers, the Bronx corpse flower has been growing three inches a day!
Where to Kiss Memorably
Where is the best place for an unforgettable smooch in the city? The Daily News put together a list (Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, the Rock Center Skating Rink, The Cloisters, Battery Park Promenade) but we think its a bit Manhattan-centric. What about the Coney Island Boardwalk? The Staten Island ferry? The Brooklyn Heights Promenade? The Botanical Gardens? Not to mention the great Manhattan spots they still managed to miss (top o' a skyscraper anyone?). Those are a few that immediately popped into our head, but what about you? Any suggestions for a romantic and memorable kiss?
Upcoming
If you aren't in Indio, California this weekend then you aren't seeing Nine Inch Nails, the Arcade Fire or Spoon. You also aren't going to be suffering from heat stroke in a desert and buying $8 bottles of water, so we think you made a wise decision to skip Coachella. This weekend in New York we say goodbye to April, which if the old saying is correct - no more rain! Right? So throw away your umbrella and head to the May Day Festival in Tompkins Square Park this Sunday. And in the meantime, check this stuff out:
The Orchid Show Opens Tomorrow
The New York Botanical Gardens' annual Orchid Show opens tomorrow, and it might be the perfect thing to stave off the winter blahs. Thousands of brilliant orchids will be on display throughout the conservatories, and the NYBG has many tours and demonstrations planned throughout the show, which ends March 27.

No Rumble in the Bronx
Besides checking out some great Italian and Puerto Rican food in the Bronx, there's the New York Botanical Gardens and the Bronx Zoo. And there's also the Bronx Tourism Council.
A Gothamist (tm) Date
The NY Post gives date suggestions for where to take girls, whether they be trend surfer, a highbrow glamour-puss or a proud bohemian" - apparently proud bohemian also means "cheap date." (And it seems like the Post doesn't think the Olive Garden is a good date option. D'oh!) Some of the usual suspects are named: Sumile, The Sanctum at Tribeca Grand, the new cafes at the Met. But, if you want to show someone a Gothamist good time, our top picks are:
