Hit-and-Run Caused by Access-A-Ride Driver

Yesterday, police were looking for the driver of a white van that hit a 71 year old pedestrian at Boston Road and Tremont Avenue in the Bronx. And now it turns out the white van was one from Access-A-Ride, the MTA-administered service (private companies are contracted to operate vans) that shuttles people with disabilities who are unable to use the subway or buses. more ›

On-the-Job Con Ed Worker Killed by Car Crash

Saturday afternoon, a woman driving a Ford Focus swerved to avoid a bicyclist at Boston Road and 169th Street in the Bronx. But she ended up hitting a Con Ed worker who had been working on an underground feeder cable. Forty year old Yuen Mun was pinned against a building (the picture of the crashed car is pretty grisly) and later died from his injuries. The police classified the incident as an accident, but his family is angry that the 62 year old driver was not charged. His brother-in-law says, "We just want justice and for the truth to come out." more ›

The weekend starts off on a sour note as news of brutal murder in broad daylight comes out. Senegalese immigrant and livery driver Modou Diop, 48, was pumping gas at a BP on Boston Road in Morrisania in the Bronx early yesterday morning when he was approached by a bum who demanded a cigar. When Diop refused the homeless man pulled out a knife, slashed Diop's throat and walked calmly away. The perpetrator is described as a light-skinned black man with short curly hair, between 18 and 25 and weighing 140 to 160 pounds. Diop, a limo driver who had been in New York since the late 80s, leaves behind a wife and children still in Senegal. more ›
