Which Celebrities Are Throwing Money at New York Politicians?

Ever wonder who your favorite celebrities vote for? The Daily News got a look at some Federal Election Campaign files, and saw some pretty big names on the campaign donation lists. Rep. John Hall apparently got $500 from Chevy Chase and $2,400 from Bonnie Raitt for his last campaign, and Anthony Weiner got support from Donald Trump and designer Lisa Perry (not to mention all those foreign models). But Brooklyn Rep. Ed Towns' opponent Kevin Powell may have the most talented supporter, with Chris Rock donating $2,400. That donation was matched by designer Mark Ecko and Chicago Bears player Julius Peppers. more ›

Music Magazine for Adults

Scratchy voiced Alan Light and John Rollins (Gothamist doesn't know anything about Rollins' voice, only Light's because he'dcomment on ANYTHING on VH1) bring a new music magazine offering with Tracks, oriented to more adult readers. The Times' David Carr looks at this venture, which seems to follow the music industry's realization that older consumers will buy, versus download, music, but the older consumers are simply not being spoken to. One doubtful industry expert, wondering if there are adults obsessive enough to shell out some change for a magazine about the music they like, says, "My experience has been that the people who like to listen to Bonnie Raitt and Phil Collins do not have music as a primary interest." Well, duh. If any magazine had a editorial mission to simply cover Phil Collins, it would only be good as a money laundering scheme. But this sounds just like the original business plan for VH1, so expect a couple issues down the road for it to be all about the 80s. Or the Fabulous Life of Sharon Osbourne. more ›

Tonight, the 92nd Street Y has a screening of the documentary, The Party's Over, which follows Philip Seymour Hoffman as he looks inside the political process during the 2000 Republican and Democratic conventions, with a post-screening question & answer session with Hoffman as well. The film was directed by Donovan Leitch and Rebecca Chaiklin, (produced by Robert Downey Sr., Stanley Buchtal, Robert Downey Jr. and Leitch) and features Susan Sarandon, Bonnie Raitt, Eddie Vedder, Noam Chomsky, Willie Nelson, Newt Gingrich and Courtney Love among various artists, activists, and politicans interviewed. more ›
