Hours after CBS decided to fire Don Imus yesterday afternoon for his comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team, Imus, joined by his wife, and the basketball team and coach, joined by university officials and others, met at the NJ Governor's mansion . This afternoon, Rutgers coach C. Vivian Stringer said :

We, the Rutgers University Scarlet Knight basketball team, accept -- accept -- Mr. Imus' apology, and we are in the process of forgiving. We still find his statements to be unacceptable, and this is an experience that we will never forget.

Filling in for her husband on the Imus in the Morning radio show, Deirdre Imus told listeners to stop sending hate mail to the basketball players and instead "send hate mail to my husband." She added that the players were "beautiful and courageous." There's a lot of finger-pointing and blame right now, from many sides. Imus, for one, has complained about the treatment he's getting in the media, from MSNBC, from Al Sharpton, and more, but he has admitted that he was wrong to say what he did. When it comes down to it, it seems the only innocent people in this situation are the Rutger's women's basketball team.

This morning, NBC News President Steve Capus appeared on the Today show to discuss the immediate ending of radio shock jock Don Imus's MSNBC simulcast. Per TVNewser, Capus said:

There's no question that his program has had provocative conversation and interesting conversation, deep conversation with thought leaders and political leaders through the years. But it's also had the other element. At some point you have to say 'enough is enough.' This went so far over the line that it was time.

Capus also mentioned the most vocal critics he heard from were from NBC itself and said "why have an integrity policy unless you're going to enforce it?" The NBC News chief has denied that the reason for the firing was because advertisers were fleeing, which we sort of buy - given that the show made $50 million in revenue, you could probably find some less prestigious advertisers to fill the ad time. FishbowlDC has been liveblogging Imus's radio show this morning, and Imus talks about hyprocrisy, MSNBC being unethical, and a lack of support from Harold Ford Jr.

Oh, the sacrifices people make for marriage. The Post suggests the embattled Pirros stay together because of money: Al makes it and makes sure Jeanine has $15,000 a month to live on. A source tells the Post:

"Jeanine loves the lifestyle that Al's income provides her. You can't believe how much money this lady spends," the source said.
