Allegedly the NYPD was investigating Andrew Williamson-Noble's death at NYU's Bobst Library early yesterday morning as a possible homicide, until they discovered a suicide note in his dorm room. While his final words should remain private, the Daily News has apparently done some digging into his personal life.

[UPDATED] Early Morning Suicide at NYU's Bobst Library
Early this morning we received an email from an NYU student who was studying at Bobst Library. He told us that around 4:30 a.m. he heard a "huge boom" that ended up being a successful suicide attempt. He told us the "kid must have jumped from high judging from where he landed in the lobby. Couldn't tell his condition from what I saw. I was told by a cop on the scene that he didn't look good."

Concerns After NYU Freshman's Suicide
New York University is urging students who are feeling overwhelmed to contact the school's mental health facilities, a few days after one of its incoming freshman killed himself by jumping from the 15th-floor roof of his Union Square dorm on East 14th St. Eighteen-year-old "Trey" Allan Oakley Hunter III leapt to his death minutes after texting a goodbye message to his parents and brother. In an email sent out to students, university president John Sexton described how young people far from home and confronted with an alien environment that can seem overwhelming often make irreversible and tragic decisions.
NYU Student Jumps to Death From Dorm
A freshman from New York University apparently committed suicide yesterday morning. The student, Allan Oakley Hunter III, jumped from the roof of University Hall, a 15-story dorm at 110 East 14th Street; his body was found in the courtyard. The Washington Square News reports that police were searching his room around 10AM yesterday morning and that his body was removed by 1PM.
NYU Suicides on Celluloid, Again

NYU Student Deaths
The off-campus death of Chien, UCLA transfer and daughter of a senior VP at TiVo, did make the death feel "removed" (versus the deaths at the Bobst Library), but students are still upset, one telling the Times, "People are sort of angry and bitter. They don't understand why this keeps happening." The Times also notes that police cannot confirm the Post's report, based on police sources, that Chien had argued with her boyfriend earlier in the day. While Gothamist knows suicides and deaths during college year are, sadly, a part of what happens, we also think that the unusual number of recent deaths, coupled with the fact that NY has a number of big media outlets, makes the situation more publicized.
Third Suicide at NYU
A sophomore died after falling from the 6th floor window at 1 University Place. The Daily News reports that the police call it "an apparent suicide." The student, from Brooklyn, apparently went to another student's room in the non university-owned building to jump at 10PM last night. She was pronounced dead at St. Vincent's Hospital later. It's unclear whether she lived at 1 University Place or in Brooklyn. Gothamist is in no way an expert on suicide, and we are very saddened by this death, but it does seem odd to jump from a friend's window.
Suicides Lead To Library's Barriers
Yesterday, NYU President John Sexton sent a letter to students, informing them in the wake of the two suicides at Bobst Library, glass panel barriers would be put up in the Bobst Library's inner balconies. Additionally, as the Daily News reports, "70 Washington Square South will be restricted and extra guards will be posted to keep people away" as the panels are installed. Talks with contractors to install panels had been initiated after the first suicide in September, but after Friday's suicide, it seems the process has been expedited. Sexton's letter also noted, "."
NYU Library Suicides
The second suicide in a month in the Bobst Library has left NYU wondering what is going on. An 18 year-old jumped to his death from the 8th, 9th, or 10th floor last Friday and a 20 year-old jumped from the 10th floor. One library worker who was present during both suicides told the Daily News, "He just jumped - it was quick. I didn't look over the ledge. I looked the last time." Officials are probing both suicides.
