Winter and Spring to Fight for Weather Supremacy This Week

Winter and Spring to Fight for Weather Supremacy This Week

This week's weather is a battle between winter and spring. Valentine's Day will start off warm, with a high in the low 50s, but there's a double-shot of cold fronts coming on tap. The first one is more of a bluster front than a cold front. A wind advisory is in effect from noon until early tomorrow morning. At first the winds will be out of the west at 15-25 mph. A second cold front, part of an Alberta Clipper, will arrive this evening. Not only will the winds pick up but they will start coming out of the northwest where the cold air lives. more ›

It's Still March Outside

It's Still March Outside

Mother Nature would like you to remember that she is a mercurial beast. The old gal plunged a cold front through the city this morning. The rain ahead of the front raised the monthly total to 6.31 inches. That's only .02 inches away from making 2010 one of the ten rainiest Marches ever recorded in Central Park. No more rain is expected today but it is going to be cold and blustery. Look for 20-25 mph winds with higher gusts and a temperature dropping into the mid 30s by late afternoon. You did bring an extra layer to work today, didn't you? more ›

Blustery First Weekend of 2010

Central Park is up to 12.4 inches of snow for the season which is more than half the normal winter total. We'll get a break from the snow on the first day of 2010 but look for flurries to return over the weekend. more ›

Gusty Good Friday

Gusty Good Friday

Hold on to your tri-cornered hats! The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for today. A steady breeze of 20-30 miles an hour is expected to last much of the day as a strong high pressure system moves into the region following the departure of the deep low that brought us over an inch of rain the last two days. Gusts of up to 40, or even 50 mph are likely throughout the day. The wind advisory expires at 5pm, but the winds will remain strong overnight, just not strong enough to meet advisory criteria. more ›

A Blustery Day

A Blustery Day

After a couple of warmish days the city has quickly cooled off in the wake of last night's cold front passage. There's quite a pressure gradient associated with yesterday's storm. So, even though the low is now over the Canadian Maritimes, the city will still feel its windy ways today. Expect winds to rev up to 20 miles an hour, with gusts to 30 mph, throughout the day. A brief snow flurry or two is not out of the question. Today's high of 44 was reached at midnight. At best, temperatures will hold steady in the upper-30s during the afternoon hours. more ›
