This week, Phillyist saw the waters of a landmark fountain run red for a Showtime marketing stunt, the Phils pull ahead, and some serious nostalgia. They also got a chance to review an awesome tribute album, reminded folks to see the King, and appreciated their beautiful skyline.
Bill O'Reilly continued to claim that he wasn't being racist when expressing his surprise that a dinner at Harlem soul food restaurant Sylvia's was extremely pleasant. Media watchdog group Media Matters distributed text and clips of O'Reilly's radio show where the conservative talking head explained, "I couldn't get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia's restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it's run by blacks, primarily black patronship."
Bill O'Reilly is making people wonder "Oh, really?" after the conservative talk show host shared some thoughts about famous Harlem soul food restaurant Sylvia's. O'Reilly told radio listeners that he treated the Reverend Al Sharpton (because Sharpton frequently appears on The O'Reilly Factor) to dinner at Sylvia's the other night. He said he had a great time, but couldn't leave it at that, noting "all the people up there are tremendously respectful." And then:
I couldn't get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia's restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it's run by blacks, primarily black patronship.Continue reading "Bill O'Reilly: Unfamiliar With Black People "
Fox News Channel blowhard Bill O'Reilly and fellow Foxie Geraldo Rivera were in a heated argument on last night's edition of The O'Reilly Factor. The tiff was about a drunk driving illegal alien in Virginia killing someone and devolved into yelling and actual finger pointing with Geraldo starting out by pointing out to Bill that he was wrong. Since we usually avoid cable "news" like the plague, we were tipped to this morning, saw a bit on Fox 5 Midday, and was given a YouTube link. We can only imagine what MSNBC's Keith Olbermann, who is a foe of O'Reilly, is going to say on his show tonight.

is just so disgusting and exploitive, we can't believe it was ever allowed. But we're naive and such is life, and the story has been getting crazier, with the book's publisher Judith Regan issued a statement saying she published the book because she was a victim of abuse.
I made the decision to publish this book, and to sit face to face with the killer, because I wanted him, and the men who broke my heart and your hearts, to tell the truth, to confess their sins, to do penance and to amend their lives....Continue reading "Everyone Hates the O.J. Book, O.J. and Judith Regan"
Dear lord, it's only mid-September but already the amount of new releases flooding theaters is getting a bit overwhelming.
If you're going to do an issue about the 100 People Who Shape Our World, you might as well have a big party, right? Time magazine rolled out the red carpet last night for people on its list, their friends, and the press. Gothamist stopped by the party just ahead of Stephen Colbert. We were not wearing a bear costume, so he wasn't that afraid of us. And perennial favorite, Rachael Ray, showed up all glammy, alternating poses with and without her A.C.H.M. (Arm Candy Husband Meat).
While this graffiti stencil caught by callalillie captures the mystique of Detectives Goren and Eames of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, it turns out that there needs to be an addition. Chris Noth, aka Detective Mike Logan from Law & Order's first five seasons, will be a permanent cast member of Criminal Intent this fall. He and Vincent D'Onofrio will be splitting the episode load as lead detectives on the case (D'Onofrio has had some exhaustion-related absences). Gothamist is excited about Noth's return; our only request: Lose the alcohol bloat and put cucumbers on your eyes. But we're also curious if the Mike Logan character will lend itself to be as Sherlock Holmes-ish, as Goren is supposed to be. Anyway, we'll get our chance to see how Noth fares on Criminal Intent, as his guest appearance will air this weekend. Now, where's the Jerry Orbach stencil?
The Daily News says Mackris wants her life back; Gothamist wishes there was a time machine as well. Gawker on James Wolcott's loofah feelings. And Curbed notes that Middle Eastern eatery Chickpea is looking for people to name their non-falafel sandwich (the winner will get $1000).
Claiming that The Weather Channel is a safe haven for left-wing weather-liberals everywhere, Fox News today, launched it's own weather channel.
An unofficial Run-DMC website, plus Joseph Simmons spoke with Bill O'Reilly about his book.
