READING: Have you thought about Rereading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë lately? Writers and Brontë enthusiasts Jennifer Egan, Siri Hustvedt and Margot Livesey have! Tonight they celebrate the "heart-searing story of a plain, orphaned governess who struggles at an oppressive boarding school before moving to Thornfield, eventually falling in love with her mysterious employer, Mr. Rochester." The event coincides with a new Masterpiece Theatre presentation of Jane Eyre.

We love it when hometown companies hit it big! Case in point: Meetup recently raised a big pile of money from Ebay, Allen and Co, the Omidyar Network, Esther Dyson, DFJ, and Senator Bill Bradley. They're apparently using some of this money to buy ads on the subway. Officially the campaign starts on April 1st, but Janelle and Esther both spotted ads today. The spots feature pictures from various Meetup groups-- so there's a chance that you might even be in one. Fun stuff.

As the area's favorite Knick turned Senator, Bill Bradley, endorses Howard Dean, Gothamist decided to read about the Democratic debate in Iowa yesterday. The Times' David Halbfinger noted the absence of Al Sharpton, "For sheer comedic appeal, the Democratic presidential debate on Sunday was short a Sharpton..." Ah, Lorne Michaels was so on the ball in asking the Reverend to host SNL. Unintentional funniness seems to have come from one John Kerry supporter held a sign saying, "J.K. all the way," which at first seems like "Just Kidding all the way to the caucus," and the name of The Des Moines Register editor who moderated the debate: Paul Anger, who told Dean and Joseph Lieberman "to take it outside, if you need to.'" Ah, there's nothing like missing a boring debate where the Democrats don't come any closer to figuring out who can challenge Dean.
