The Girl Unit

Randy Johnson has a love child! The Smoking Gun revealed his secret little unit in court documents the Yankee pitcher filed last month. The 16 year-old girl was born in September of 1989 and her mother Laurel Roszell live in Washington. Johnson is suing for the return of 95 months of $750 day care payments for a total of $71,250, which includes $26,148.52 in interest. The Big Unit claims that Roszell owes the money because she didn't account for the expenses and that she didn't put the girl in day care at all. more ›

Mets Pound Yanks 7-1

Mets Pound Yanks 7-1

Koo wasn’t the only hero for the Mets. Kris Benson was brilliant over six innings allowing only three hits, before tiring and giving way to Koo with a runner on in the seventh. Former Yankee, Miguel Cairo, also homered for the Mets whose fans suffered a nervous moment when Carlos Beltran left the game with a groin injury. Beltran wasn’t the only injured superstar, as Derek Jeter also had to be removed from the game after being hit on the elbow. Luckily, both Jeter and Beltran escaped serious injurt and are day-to-day. more ›

On the other side of the ledger, perhaps Texas’ Chris Young should inherit the moniker of “Big Unit”. Young, at 6’10”, is as tall as Randy Johnson and certainly pitched like him tonight, limiting the Yankees to four hits while striking out seven. The Yankee offense could never get on track and managed only two extra base hits against a mediocre pitching staff. more ›

Randy Johnson Loves the Camera...

Randy Johnson Loves the Camera...

like Gothamist loves the runs. "Welcome to New York" is what a CBS cameraman said to the newest member of the New York Yankees yesterday after Randy Johnson refused to be videotaped. Newsday has screengrabs of mildly entertaining video. The last thing Johnson said to the camera was, "Don't get in my face; don't talk back to me...all right? Or you'll see what I'm like." Yikes! At least the Big Unit cleaned up for New York, no more mullet, no more 'stache or goatee, but still wearing a sweat suit. In Johnson's apology, he said that "the past few days have been a bit overwhelming." more ›

Yanks Win, Sheffield Hits #400

Yanks Win, Sheffield Hits #400

The Yankees most consistent pitcher of late, Orlando Hernandez, officially became a Yankee pitcher yesterday when he pulled up lame in the 3rd inning. Hernandez suffered from a tight hamstring. No word yet on whether this will affect his next start. Somehow the likes of Juan Padilla, Bret Prinz, Scott Proctor, and Tom Gordon held the Blue Jays in check long enough for the Yankee offense to score 4 in the 8th inning and 2 in the ninth inning for their fourth straight win over the Blue Jays this year. (Box Score 7-4) more ›

Freddy Garcia, once a player named in trade speculation, is gone. The Mariners said that Dioner Navarro and Robinson Chano were just not enough for him, so they traded him to the White Sox. Who does that leave for the Yankees to go after? Kris Benson, Russ Ortiz, Ted Lilly and Jamie Moyer are some of the names that rumored to be available. The big name out there is Randy Johnson. With Arizona falling further and further behind in the race in NL, all eyes are on the Big Unit. more ›

After the game, Johnson also credited his catcher Robby Hammock, "The job Robby did back there was amazing. I shook him off two or three times. That was in the eighth and ninth. It's nice when you're on the same page with your catcher." Giving credit where credit is due. Johnson entered the game with a 2.83 ERA, but with a losing record. He finished the game with a mark in baseball history. Johnson's line on the night - 9 innings pitched, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 13 strikeouts. All this on 117 pitches and 87 strikes. more ›
