Last week the NY Times took a closer look at the role of Bedford-Stuyvesant in Notorious, the film documenting the life of Christopher Wallace. The movie is also an homage to the neighborhood, and the paper notes that "these very locations, inspired the frank rhymes that made him the Notorious B.I.G." Below is an old clip of Biggie in Bed-Stuy at age 17, allegedly it's from "his first public rap duel."

The incident where a 14-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted by rapper Tony Yayo for wearing a Czar Entertainment t-shirt (Yayo's management company's rival) has now entered the third phase. The first phase was outcry and denial from both sides. The second phase was a press conference held by the Reverend Al Sharpton decrying the violence of the rap industry. And the third phase is the inevitable rap song.

If you enjoyed that old clip of Biggie Smalls freestyling in Bed Stuy, then you'll probably enjoy this clip of Tupac rapping on a street in Midtown. Bonus points if you notice the 40 he's swinging as he walks. Anyone know when the clip was filmed?

There's something so sweet and sad about this clip of Biggie rapping in front of a bodega-- he was only 17 years old when this movie was made. That's almost three years before he met Sean Combs, and five years before Juicy was released-- but sadly, only nine years before he died. [Related: Wikipedia on Biggie Smalls.]

been singing extremely off-key lately.) But now it seems like it's safer that we don't have a Bad Boy lifestyle - last night, at a party the former Puff Daddy had for a posthumous Biggie Smalls album, three people were shot and three other people were stabbed. Yup - the police found three men bleeding at a parking garage across from Club Exit, where the party was being held, and then a 911 call alerted them to the fact that three men were stabbed in the Club Exit's VIP lounge. It's unclear why the shootings occured, though the police did see a car with a bullet hole leaving the scene. And the stabbings seem to be motivated by a partygoer upset that he lost "a flashy bracelet." Ah, "flashy bracelet" - the third reason for club violence, after "Skank ho poured beer on my weave" and "What are you doing with my man/woman?" And P. Diddy was only at the club for fifteen minutes, none of them during the crimes (and neither was Shyne!). All six men are recovering at area hospitals.
