For Isiah Thomas, "It's Win or Die."

For Isiah Thomas, "It's Win or Die."

The New York Knicks are the most entertaining team in the NBA. Not because of the team's play on the court, but because of the soap-opera-like drama that takes place off the court. During Knicks practice yesterday, Isiah Thomas said that he's not walking away from the team he created. "If there's one thing that I hope all of you know about me, or will learn about me, I fight 'til I die. It's not... more ›

Columbia President Praised For Smacking Down Ahmadinejad

Columbia President Praised For Smacking Down Ahmadinejad

Columbia University has weathered storm of criticism for inviting Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak at its World Leader Forum yesterday. Columbia president Lee Bollinger had said that critical questions would be posed, and he wasn't kidding: Before Ahmadinejad spoke, Bollinger gave a lengthy speech that attacked the leader's positions and intelligence, said he exhibited "all the signs of a petty and cruel dictator," and called him ridiculous. You can read Bollinger's speech here, but here are his final words:

Let me close with this comment. Frankly, and in all candor, Mr. President, I doubt that you will have the intellectual courage to answer these questions. But your avoiding them will in itself be meaningful to us. I do expect you to exhibit the fanatical mindset that characterizes so much of what you say and do. Fortunately, I am told by experts on your country, that this only further undermines your position in Iran with all the many good-hearted, intelligent citizens there. A year ago, I am reliably told, your preposterous and belligerent statements in this country (as in your meeting at the Council on Foreign Relations) so embarrassed sensible Iranian citizens that this led to your party’s defeat in the December mayoral elections. May this do that and more. more ›

Times Weddings Highlights: Sure You're Married?

2007_08_revbillywedding.jpgCustomizing your wedding is standard these days, and wedding planning businesses aren't the only ones who are benefiting. There's been a boom in people applying online to be ordained to officiate friends' and families' weddings. But there's an unexpected catch: Sometimes those Universal Life Church ordinations aren't legal in the county or state where the wedding is being performed! more ›

David Blaine Wants to Jump Off the Brooklyn Bridge

David Blaine Wants to Jump Off the Brooklyn Bridge

The Post says that David Blaine has has lost 25 pounds (sometimes riding his bike in Central Park) as he gets ready for his next stunt. And what is the stunt? A jump off the Brooklyn Bridge, which would be a reprisal of a stunt by Steve Brodie who jumped into the East River while tied up in the 19th century. The thing is, Brodie didn't jump - a dummy was thrown off instead. more ›

Doug Benson, Comedian

Doug Benson, Comedian

27. The story goes something like this: I was working as a standup comedian. I started doing standup when I was twenty-two and was fairly clean living. Some drinking, but no drugs to speak of. I started performing in the Bay Area at clubs around San Francisco, working with some of the comics up there who smoked almost after every show. I started doing it with them. For the first few years that I smoked pot, I was kind of a pot mooch. I just smoked basically when I was working with other comedians who smoked pot and then eventually I realized that I had to strike out, buy some on my own, and now I'm a card carrying medical marijuana patient. more ›

Trump Doesn't Dump Miss USA, But Does Order Her to Rehab

Trump Doesn't Dump Miss USA, But Does Order Her to Rehab

After a fast and furious spate of gossip about underage drinking, drug abuse, and behavior unbecoming to a Miss USA, Miss USA Tara Conner was given a second chance by Donald Trump and pageant organizers. Trump has reportedly loved the attention from the scandal (the new season of the Apprentice starts in January!) and, at the press conference, he was as grandiose as ever. Basically, he referenced how he "fired" Miss USA 2002 Oxana Federova because she wasn't doing a good job. And he did say he expect to fire Conner before their meeting. But, ultimately, The Donald saw a "good person" caught up in the whirlwind that is New York ."

It's a story that's happened many times before, to many women and to many men that come to the Big Apple. They wanted their slice of the Big Apple and they found out it wasn't so easy. I'm always a believer in second chances... Tara is a good person. Tara has tried hard. Tara is going to be given a second chance. more ›

Video of the Day: Law & Order Rips From the Headlines

In anticipation of tomorrow night's Law & Order episode about a the meltdown of a Mel Gibson-esque celebrity (Chevy Chase says sugartits!), we present you the video of chirpy Elisabeth Hasselback's complaint about a Law & Order SVU episode, via Best Week Ever. In the episode, a character named Elizabeth Hassenback was raped twice and murdered. So Elisabeth took time to call the executive producer of L&O SVU Neal Baer and relayed the conversation on The View. We liked this exchange:

50 Cent: Get Rich AND Drive Without a License

50 Cent: Get Rich AND Drive Without a License

He might be a gangsta, but an incident with the police made him seem a little more wanksta. Rap star 50 Cent was issued summons for driving his hot $500,000 Lamborghini convertible without a license, insurance, or license plates. Police say he made an "unsafe lane change" and had been weaving in and out of traffic. Of course, the driving infractions got more attention when he was pulled over near 32th Street and 8th Avenue yesterday afternoon, where fans could see him and take camera phone pictures of him. 50 Cent said, "What up, people," to the emerging crowd, who cheered him - and then booed the police, who put handcuff on 50 and took him to a stationhouse. The crowd yelled that the cops were "arresting another black man just for being black," according to a witness the Post spoke to, but the police claimed they had to get him away from the crowd and that the handcuffs were standard procedure. Maybe they were worried he would hurt them with one of his huge checks! more ›
