Last night Hickory the Scottish deerhound was crowned Best In Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Show, making her the first Scottish deerhound to ever take the prize. She won against competitors like bearded collie Mister Baggins, Jayne the Chinese shar pei, Adam the smooth coat fox terrier (picked to win by "wizard of odds" Johnny Avello), and apparently a muppet. (Just kidding! That furball is Malachy the Pekingese.) Judge Paolo Dondina of Italy said of Hickory, "This animal is like in the heavens. It's not of this world." more ›

Tonight at 8 p.m., USA Network will be airing the Best In Show competition (check out the Best in Group results here) from the Westminster Kennel Club Show going on now at Madison Square Garden. And from the looks of it, the pooches are getting read for their close-ups. Flickr user coifmo66 took these photos of the scene backstage, where contestants are being pampered and primped. And to think, some of these dogs once did things like herd sheep! Thank goodness we now have robots for that. more ›

Pretty Lady: Sadie The Scottie Wins Westminster

    

Last night, Sadie the Scottish Terrier won the Westminster Kennel Club's 134th Best in Show. The four-year-old pup was favored to win it all, since she won the American Kennel Club/Eukanaba Championship and the National Dog Show in the past few months. Her handler Gabriel Rangel said, "She was perfect. I couldn't ask for anything more." more ›

Today is day two (of two) of the Westminster Kennel Club's 132nd Dog show, and the best in group for the sporting, working and toy groups will be determined. Those dogs will face off against the winners of the herding (an Australian Shepherd), non-sporting (a standard poodle), terrier (a Sealhyam Terrier), and the hound (a beagle) groups. more ›

The 132nd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show arrives at Madison Square Garden Monday. The two-day event has thousands of dogs undergo a winnowing process that culminates with the awarding of Best in Show. The American Kennel Club recognizes 157 disinct breeds that are eligible for competition, and four of those breeds are brand new entries to the field. They include the Tibetan mastiff (a working dog), the Beaucerand and Swedish vallhund (herding dogs), and the Plott (a hound). more ›
