Last night the 59th Annual Emmy Awards took place on the left coast, but New Yorkers made out very well. New York productions/creative types that took home the gold: Late Night with Conan O'Brien (writing), The Daily Show (variety-comedy show series), 30 Rock (best comedy), and Dick Wolf (for producing Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee). In the would-have-been arena, America Ferrera won best actress in a comedy, Ugly Betty, which was originally supposed......

I’ve been covering theater on Gothamist for exactly one year now, so I thought it might be worthwhile to gaze wistfully back at all the theatrical peaks and valleys and call attention to some of the more noteworthy summits. (Okay, maybe one bleak valley deserves special mention.) And since I’m on vacation until the end of the month, what better time to bust out the internet equivalent of a sitcom clips show? I hasten to......

The first time I saw Daily Show correspondent John Oliver was at the UCB during their Best Comedy in the Universe Festival. During his half hour set, there was no thirty-second period where the audience wasn't laughing uproariously. From that alone I can say that Oliver is a tremendous talent and I can't wait to see him take the mic once again. Which of your Daily Show assignments has been your favorite thus far? I......

After last year's mess of an awards show and this year's joke of nominations (where is love for Lauren Graham, Academy of Television Arts & Sciences?), we were going to swear off this year's Emmys. But then we realized Conan O'Brien was hosting, so we must watch and liveblog. And there's the hope of a good Steve Carrell bit, not to mention awkward reaction shots of Candy and Tori Spelling during the Aaron Spelling tribute.......

Gothamist was a bit underwhelmed by this year's Golden Globe nominees, and we were thinking of not liveblogging. But, gosh darn it as we watched the E! preshow and saw the starlets sparkle their way down the red carpet, we realize it was hopeless, so here we are. Let it be known that: - Keira Knightley looks gorgeous in her white Valentino - and there's something surprisingly youthful about the dress, even though there's that......

Ah, along with the impending cold front, holiday sales, and smell of pine (from the tree sellers on the corner), Gothamist is enjoying the rites of winter with today's announcement of the Golden Globe nominations. The Golden Globes, best known as the boozy, somewhat suspect, but first awards ceremony of the year, picking rollicking wine-n-buddy movie, Sideways to lead the film contenders, with 7 nominations in the Best Comedy/Musical category; Closer and Million Dollar Baby......

The curmudgeon Gothamist would like to be, Larry David, speaks with Bob Costas tonight on On the Record with Bob Costas. David doesn't often give interviews (mainly because he doesn't have to), so it should be interesting to hear him riff. He'll tell the infamous story about quitting-Saturday-Night-Live but-returning-to -work-after-freaking-out -about-the-ramifications story that became the basis for The Revenge episode of Seinfeld where George does the same thing. Apparently, the real Kramer told David......

The FOX Network has renewed The Simpsons until 2005, which will make it the longest-runing sitcom in TV History. It's also time to give props to the wacky Hollywood Foreign Press Association for nominating The Simpsons and recognizing its brilliance as a Best Comedy contender, rather than what the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (aka the people behing the Emmys) do, which is put The Simpsons in the animated cartoon category.......

Congratulations to Larry David and the rest of the Curb Your Enthusiasm gang for their Producer's Guild nomination for Best Comedy. The show is also nominated for Best Comedy at the Golden Globes, which happens this Sunday.......
