deserves to have their dreams invaded by the musical stylings of Foghat – but then the bad advice came rolling in: "While the noise is occurring, call 911." A second sage declared that late at night "is no time for you to worry about whether you're being inconsiderate by calling the authorities." That's the path that one local took when going up against Union Hall earlier this year (he lost), so using resources like 911 for complaints like that isn't always advised--hello, Reginald Peterson. Instead call 311 and try talking to the bar owner.

On Sunday, a Brooklyn woman who took in homeless men was found dead in her apartment. The Post reported that neighbors, who had not seen Young since Thursday, noticed a foul smell and eventually Geraldine Young's son found her "bloated and naked" body in a locked room. The ME's office's autopsy was inconclusive, and the police have yet to classify the death as a murder.
In just a few hours, there were five separate shootings all over Brooklyn last night and early this morning. The violence began at 10:20PM in Ditmas Park, when three people were shot at East 21st and Dorchester Road when a gunman opened fire on a man. The 25-year-old known as "Indian" died while a 23-year-old and a 50-year-old, who was shot inside his/her home, were both in stable condition.
Watching the Brooklyn Dodgers documentary on HBO made us dig for some more footage on YouTube. The team had many nicknames, one being the Trolley Dodgers, and their fans were often dependent on the trolley system to get to the games. The above film shows a Brooklyn trolley at 5th Avenue and Flatbush, 5th Avenue and Bergen Street and finally 5th Avenue and 9th Street, with some great shots of the people and area at the time. One commenter on the video points out that at the 2:30 mark the Avon Theater is shown (which in that day would show double features and cartoons for "25 cent a pop").
The flurry of rumors that surrounded the Brooklyn Inn a few months ago have largely quieted. With no breaking news stories or insider tips, we decided to wander over there to see what had actually happened to one of the most cherished bars in Boerum Hill.
Yesterday morning, Pamela Haahr-Oribe was jogging near Third Avenue and Bergen Street when a bus hit her. The Daily News reports she had slipped on snow around 8:40AM before a Bestway Coach bus collided into her. Haahr-Oribe suffered head injuries and is in critical condition at Lutheran Medical Center.

If you’ve been to Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, or Carroll Gardens and kept your eyes open while you were there, you’ve noticed that empty yellow cabs are always cruising up Clinton Street on their way back to Manhattan. What you might not have noticed is that they often make pit stops for a quick bite before crossing the bridge. Quite a few of my cabbie colleagues are Middle Easterners, and they each have their own personal favorite amongst the cluster of cheap, authentic, and delicious Middle Eastern restaurants along Atlantic Avenue. Having tried a number of their recommendations over the years, I’ve chosen my own favorite: Waterfalls Café.
- And the G was suspended from Court Square to Fourth Avenue and the E was suspended in Manhattan. Also, here are this weekend's subway reroutings.
