For weeks, Gothamist has raved about the Nets' lesser-known players. They've supported the stars on their big nights and helped compensate for big names' cold games as well. But none of that matters if the Nets play defense like they did in Tuesday's 104-101 loss in Chicago. That is to say, the Nets must play some defense in the fourth quarter. They proved unable to stop former Connecticut star Ben Gordon, and a desperate Bulls team kept its playoff hopes alive.

The Knicks managed to play well enough last night to keep the crowd from turning hostile. In fact, they looked like they were going to actually win a game, building a 16-point lead in the third quarter and holding a 9-point lead with five minutes left. That’s when things fell apart and the Knicks collapsed down the stretch of their 108-101 loss.
Ben Gordon beat the Knicks again last night. Gordon hit a jumper over Trevor Ariza as time expired in overtime to give the Bulls a 106-104 victory. Stephon Marbury did not play for the Knicks ending his consecutive game streak and the date of his return to the lineup is unknown.
These losses (especially the one to the Hornets last week) have put Lenny Wilkens' job in serious jeopardy. Isiah Thomas has sworn that he would never install himself in the coaching role, but the New York media have never really put much stock in that. Given Thomas' proclivity for trades, expect some shifts in both players and coaching before next month's trade deadline.
Well, we didn't get alot right, but at least we called Sebastian Telfair to the Blazers at 13. Gothamist spent the last week looking up florists in Portland, Orgeon so we could send Blazers GM John Nash a big bouquet of flowers. Because Telfair went early, high school stud Al Jefferson fell to Boston at 15, providing the Celtics with the bruising PF they so desperately needed.
The offseason in the NBA has just begun and we’ve already seen the most dominant player in the league and the reigning scoring champion both involved in trade talks. This should set the stage very nicely for tonight’s draft.
