Fake Yank 'Joba the Slut' Being Tried for Bagel Theft

Fake Yank 'Joba the Slut' Being Tried for Bagel Theft

Yesterday in Belmar Municipal Court, an innocent Jersey Shore town sought justice against a man who spent the summer bedding their women and eating their bagels, simply because he made them believe that he was Yankee phenom pitcher Joba Chamberlain. 30-year-old Ryan Ward has been charged with "theft by deception" after he swindled free food out of the Belmar Bagel Cafe last summer. Ward opened a newspaper to the sports section and pointed at "his picture," while asking female workers, "Do you know who I am?" He then autographed the newspaper, which owner Don Weston considered framing. (Ward has since returned to the cafe and paid for his free bagels and coffee). more ›

NY Post Sends a "Guido" to Confront Belmar Mayor

Yesterday during Belmar, NJ Mayor Ken Pringle's tour of Staten Island, the NY Post sent a reporter dressed as a guido to confront him. The mayor was in Staten Island for a photo op tour in an attempt to smooth relations over with the borough after a stir arose around comments he made in a newsletter about guidos and "over-bleached blondes" from Staten Island who visit the Jersey Shore town throughout the summer. more ›

Something to Look Forward to

Today, Belmar, NJ mayor Ken Pringle visited Staten Island, as part of his apology after slamming the borough's ladies, as well as calling out "guidos." We're looking forward to the Post's coverage tomorrow, because of this advance word, via the SI Advance: "A reporter from the New York Post dressed for the occasion in an undershirt, spray-on tan and a gold necklace approached Pringle while the New Jersey official had lunch in Lorenzo's Restaurant, wanting to know if he was still welcome in Belmar. 'What do you think about this, huh?' said the reporter, Justin Rocket Silverman. 'Am I a clown to you?'" more ›

NJ Mayor Apologizes to Staten Islanders

NJ Mayor Apologizes to Staten Islanders

Belmar NJ mayor Ken Pringle printed his official apology to Staten Islanders, Italian-Americans and blondes this weekend (PDF), in hopes of quelling the outrage over his newsletter musing about aggressive Staten Island girls and others (Pringle claimed he was trying to be humorous). Still, some Staten Islanders visiting the Jersey shore made it a point not to frequent Belmar bar D'Jais, though one NY woman who wanted to stay past closing time yelled, "[Expletive] you, you Jersey [expletives]!" And the Post feels that Pringle "proved his elitist views" due to the delivered newspaper on his front step--it was the NY Times. more ›

NJ Beach Town Mayor Slams Staten Island Girls

NJ Beach Town Mayor Slams Staten Island Girls

Jersey shore town Belmar attracts a lot of rowdy summer renters, to the point where the town has very strict noise codes and maps offending houses on its "Animal House Map." But many think Belmar Mayor Ken Pringle went too far when he described an altercation between a NJ resident and a visitor from Staten Island in a town newsletter. more ›

Kegs, Single-Finger Salutes Allowed in NJ Town

Kegs, Single-Finger Salutes Allowed in NJ Town

The Jersey shore town of Belmar has repealed laws that banned unregistered beer kegs and giving someone the finger. Apparently Belmar had instituted these laws to clean up its image as "Fort Lauderdale North" but Belmar's mayor told the AP the rules were hard to enforce. Belmar still has other strict rules as well as code enforcement officers who regularly crack down on summer renters with, say, empty beer cups left on front porches, and give more expensive noise violation fines the later it is. Most amazingly, the town maintains an "Animal House Map." more ›
