Can You Answer These 90s Pop Culture Questions Posed By Pat Kiernan?

Can You Answer These 90s Pop Culture Questions Posed By Pat Kiernan?

New York's favorite news anchor (and LIVE! with Kelly guest-host) Pat Kiernan took to the Bell House stage last night for a night of 90s themed trivia—he's been hosting these always sold-out trivia nights for months now, and you can expect more 90s nights in the future. Kiernan had joined forces with sponsor TrivWorks in three previous events—one of them benefiting VH1's Save The Music campaign—before an audience poll selected the evening's 90s theme. For his grand entrance last night, he sauntered in to the tune of his favorite 90's hit, "I Want It That Way," dressed in casual attire and adorned with his very own Britney Spears mic. more ›

Brooklyn Bacon Takedown Is Coming To Rock Your Arteries Next Weekend

Proof that bacon is not just a passing trend, the third annual Brooklyn Bacon Takedown is coming to town next weekend, in all its artery-clogging glory. The name pretty much says it all, but here are a few more details: 20 amateur chefs will compete to create the most excessively delicious bacon-centric dish in all the land. Guests will pay $15 to mill about the Bell House on October 16 and sample the each of the wares, then they will vote upon the ultimate porcine champion. more ›

Photos, Video: Deer Tick Plays To Fight NYPD Brutality, Steve Albini Supports Protestors

John McCauley had just playfully burned through the famous licks of "Sweet Child o' Mine" and seemed eager to launch into Deer Tick's set before a teeming audience at Death By Audio last night, when he realized that there was business to attend to. "You should be able to hold up a sign that says 'Capitalism Sucks' and not have the sh*t kicked out of you by the police." He was referring to the allegations of police brutality incurred by the Occupy Wall Street protestors, which were the impetus for the free show. "I know those guys don't really have a clear message or anything, but they shouldn't be beaten up either." more ›

Where To Get Your Bingo On

Where To Get Your Bingo On

What, you think bingo isn't a young man's game? Think it's just for all the bubbes in Boca? Well, think again, because bingo's making a comeback across the city, and the competition is fierce! (Well, kind of. Because it's still a game with essentially no strategy.) We scoured the city's Moose Lodges and church basements, and here's what we came up with, including one usually secret game that's happening tonight. Click through for the picks. more ›

<em>Always Sunny</em>'s Charlie Day Tells Us Philly Is NOT The 6th Borough

Always Sunny's Charlie Day Tells Us Philly Is NOT The 6th Borough

Next week the Bell House will be hosting a marathon screening of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia," and they're going all out by transforming the space into Paddy's Pub ("canned wine and all"). We contacted Charlie Day (one of the show's stars, as well as an Apes & Androids fan) to see what he thought about all of this, and to finally settle the score on Philly's sometimes 6th borough claim—of which he told us, "If you can't get there with a MetroCard, it's not a borough." Sorry Philly! more ›

NYC Fundraisers For Haiti In The Works

NYC Fundraisers For Haiti In The Works

We've already listed a few ways that you can help Haiti. Aside from online donations, which are much needed, there are also a number of local fundraisers in the works. Skippy from the Bell House in Brooklyn tells us he's organizing a big one, set for January 27th. There will be bands, comedians, a raffle, and lots of extras — with 100% of the box office and raffle proceeds going to the people of Haiti. If you can donate something towards the raffle, or can help in another way, please email him at: parksloper (at) gmail (dot) com. more ›

The Bell House Opens

One of the (many) new venues taking root in Gowanus will be opening its doors this week. Back in June we checked in on the progress of The Bell House (run by Union Hall and Floyd owners Jim Carden and Andy Templar, along with Union Hall booker Jack McFadden). To recap, there will be a huge bar in the performance space as well as a front lounge bar, and an entrance to each will be located in a foyer that connects the two. Located at 149 7th Street between 2nd & 3rd Avenues, the venue was was crafted out of an old 1920’s warehouse once used as a printing press. more ›
