Rikers Visitor Speaks Out About Beating
On Veterans Day, it was reported that several witnesses, including a Daily News reporter, watched as a Rikers Island Corrections Officer got into a verbal argument with a visitor, then beat and arrested him. Now, that visitor has spoken out about the incident, and he plans to sue the shit out of the institution. "I've never taken a beating like that in my life...I'm angry, very upset. I never did anything to provoke them. They're supposed to be the Boldest. Is that bold? To give you a royal ass whipping?"
Reporter Witnesses Bloody Rikers Visitor Beatdown
Witnesses claim that a corrections officer got into a shouting match with a visitor at Rikers Island yesterday, then beat him to a pulp and arrested him. Which leads us to one simple rule for guards: if you feel that you absolutely must assault a visitor at Rikers, try not to do it in front of a Daily News reporter.
WSJ: Madoff Did Get Prison Beatdown
Last December, it was reported that Ponzi scheme mastermind Bernard Madoff was assaulted at the North Carolina federal prison where he's being held for his 140-year sentence. Then prison officials said that he was not beaten and that he was simply being treated for hypertension and dizziness. Now the Wall Street Journal says that the 71-year-old "was physically assaulted by another inmate in December, according to three people familiar with the matter" and was "treated for a broken nose, fractured ribs and cuts to his head and face."
Woman Pleads Guilty in 2006 West Village Beatdown
A NJ woman has pleaded guilty to the 2006 beating of a man in the West Village. Renata Hill and three friends beat up Dwayne Buckle outside the IFC Center on 6th Avenue because Buckle made sexual remarks at one of them (he said he would "f--- [her] straight") and then made rude remarks (calling one "an elephant" at the others). Buckle was stabbed during the attack—one of the women, who were arrested, had explained, " I admit I did cut him one time for my own safety." An appeals court threw out three of the women's convictions (the fourth's case was dismissed) and had ordered another trial for Hill; instead of another trial, Hill will serve a 3 1/2 year sentence.
