Red Hook residents who used to party at Lillie’s bar on Beard Street may be surprised to discover that right next door to the decadent nightspot was an elegant restaurant waiting to be born. What was previously storage space has been thoroughly overhauled into a French bistro called La Bouillabaisse, which owner Neil Ganic (Petite Crevette) hopes to have running in time for the June 18th grand opening of IKEA, conveniently located across the street. (Ganic formerly operated an iteration of La Bouillabaisse on Atlantic Avenue.)

Some sad news for fans of New York industrial architecture: demolition permits have been issued for the Revere Sugar Refinery, located on a pier off Beard Street, and sandwiched between the site of the new Fairway and the soon-to-be-built Ikea. The property was recently purchased by Thor Equities, the same company that is working on the "redevelopment" of Coney Island. The site has long been a popular destination for photographers-- but it sounds like if you want to get any last pix, you should probably get down there ASAP. Word from Curbed is that Breeze Demolition trucks are already on the premises, and demolition of the signature dome begins on Friday.

Alexis alerted us to a big demolition going on today at the Ikea site in Red Hook. If you happen to be on Beard Street today, try to grab us a picture-- we're not going to be able to get down there until the late afternoon.

Corie and Lex found a bunch of medium format negatives laying in a puddle on Beard Street in Red Hook:

We were walking in Red Hook yesterday, and noticed a couple of new Swoon pieces on Beard Street (the black-on-white prints are new-- the red door piece is old.) [Related: how about 70+ Swoon pieces on Streetsy, and another 110+ in the Streetsy Pool?]

Gothamist tried to see the eponymous Lillie of Lillie's in Red Hook this week to report on bar’s reopening. It didn’t quite work out for us (we tried going twice this week- they are reopening slowly). But she promises this weekend is a good time to check out the renovation and changes, and everytime we’ve visited we’ve had fun- either staring wistfully (read:tipsy) at the rest of Brooklyn through the garden or drinking shots of tequila from shot glasses in a waitress’s cleavage instead of off a bar and seeing the legendary bombshell Lady Ace perform strip teases for Valentine's day event. Lillie Haus is a bit of legend herself, bartending at Orchard Bar for ages and attracting all the misplaced and lonesome Southerners with her charm before owning her own place on a neglected corner a short bus or car ride from the Smith & Ninth Street F station. But she wasn’t there to make us her famous Red Hooker (ask for it, it’s too sweet and too vicious not to try).
