Gotta love summer -- cold beer, beaches, summer flings and, of course, barbecue. Another 'cue festival is upon us -- this time it's BBQ NYC on August 26th. We're giving you some advance warning on this one because spots are going quickly. For $40, you get to hang out on Ward's Island for all you can eat BBQ, and 5 beer/wine tickets. This year's theme is "A Celebration of Texas BBQ," featuring slow smoked cow, pork and chicken by Big Island / Hill Country BBQ; Elgin Hot Links from Meyer's; Alderwood Smoked Salmon by Stephen J. Silverberg. esq.; plenty of sides and traditional Texas fixin's. They're also doing a pot luck of sorts -- if you are one of the first 20 who make a donation with a a note saying you're bringing a dessert or one of the first 20 who donate with a note saying they're bringing an hors d'oeuvre, you'll get bumped to the front of the food lines. How's that for incentive to share? RSVP at www.bbq-nyc.com; donation of $40 to attend; 3-7 pm.

There are few things Gothamist loves more than BBQ (pandas and Law & Order come to mind), so with all the 'que in New York City now, our stomach is enjoying itself a bit too much. Over the weekend, we headed over to Ward's Island for the 3rd Annual BBQ NYC. It was a great time with great food and music by The Flanks, how could one go wrong?
BBQ NYC, which is on Saturday, is already sold out, but you can still get your ribs on at the Sixth Annual Blues, Barbecue and Fireworks on Sunday. This year's participants include Daisy May’s BBQ U.S.A., plus relative newcomers Dinosaur Bar B Que, RIB, Smoked Barbecue, and Spanky’s BBQ. Gothamist on last year's event.
If you missed the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party, and BBQ NYC and Blues, BBQ & Fireworks, you can still eat your fill this weekend at the Brooklyn Brewery this Sunday from 1 to 5 pm. For a $45 donation, which supports cancer diagnostics through Patient Focus, you can enjoy unlimited beer, award-winning barbecue from Big Island BBQ, authentic key lime pies, and music.
City Rag tipped us off to another annual NYC barbecue event. Gothamist has attended the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party this year and last year, but we haven't yet made it to BBQ NYC, which was held on July 24th in Flushing Meadows Park. City Rag was able to interview the founder of the event, Travis Mills, and take some mouthwatering pictures which makes us even more sad that we weren't there. We'll be sure to go next year, thanks to CityRag's following tips:
- go to the official website for information on how to attend and to get on the mailing list BBQ-NYC.com (and there will be pix and updates about the event there in the coming days)Continue reading "BBQ NYC"
