Last November 15-year-old Marcus Bonner was shot in the face by a plainclothes narcotics detective who allegedly mistook Bonner's BB gun for the real thing. Though Bonner survived the incident he and his family are still, let's just say, upset about it. So they're suing the city, arguing that Bonner carried the gun to protect himself from bullies, that the officer who fired saw Bonner running from said bullies before chasing him and that the two officers on the scene lied about Bonner pulling the BB gun to cover up for their mistakes. Meanwhile, Bonner still faces two weapon possession charges from the day—a day we suspect all parties involved would rather hadn't happened.

Arming Your Kid With BB Gun, Knife To Fight School Bullies
We know they say never bring a knife to a gunfight, but what about bringing a knife and BB gun to school, because your mom wants to make sure you can defend yourself against bullies? A Connecticut woman was arrested and charged with risk of injury to a minor after school officials discovered "a pistol-style BB gun and a folding knife in [her son's] backpack Friday afternoon." Why? Sylvia Mojica allegedly told police her son was being bullied and the school's security also said it "had seen the boy being chased by other students on at least one previous occasion."
Brooklyn AutoZone Robber Claimed To Be Victim
Police arrested three people who held up an AutoZone in Bensonhurst last night. A worker had tripped the alarm when the three suspects, two men and a woman, demanded money; according to WABC 7, "Police had the building surrounded by the time they tried to leave. One of the suspects came outside in an AutoZone shirt, claiming to be an employee. But police asked the man the store's phone number, and he was arrested when he did not know the answer." The other two suspects were hiding in the store. The suspects were also armed—with BB guns and water pistols.
Vandals Launch Rocks At Staten Island Buses
Staten Island bus riders are worried for their safety after vandals apparently hit city buses with rocks or BB gun pellets on Thursday and Saturday. The incidents occurred near Hylan Boulevard, and left buses with broken windows and some passengers with minor injuries. New York City Transit spokesman Charles Seaton told the Staten Island Advance, "We’re taking this extremely seriously. Anyone who vandalizes a bus with or without passengers is a jerk."
Four Shot During Easter Night Violence In Midtown
Dozens of people have been arrested after melees in Times Square and near Penn Station that left at least four people shot by guns or a BB gun. According to WABC 7, "The violence broke out after a yearly Easter Night ritual of a roving band of rowdy youths walking to Times Square after attending the auto show at the Javits Center." And a security guard in Times Square told the Post, "This kind of nonsense [on Easter night] has been going on for the five years I've been here."
Teen Pulls BB Gun On Cops, Gets Shot In The Face
A Bronx cop shot a teenager in the face after the adolescent reached for a BB gun on Holland Avenue yesterday afternoon. A plainclothes narcotics detective fired on 15-year-old Marcus Bonner at around 5 pm, hitting the aspiring rapper in the cheek after he made a move for the authentic-looking gun. "He makes like he's putting his hands up to surrender," a police source told the Daily News. "It's a fake surrender and he reaches for his gun."
BB Gun Shot At Cop Leads To 15 Arrests
The Daily News reports that when a rookie cop realized he'd been hit while patrolling a Bed-Stuy housing project, he and his partner decided to check out an apartment with an open window: "Inside the apartment, they found 15 people, a Crosman BB gun, an unloaded .358 Magnum, ammunition and crack cocaine...Elliot Allen, 22, admitted he fired the BB gun, claiming he wasn't aiming at anyone. Police said they believe Allen wanted to get back at the officer because he had arrested one of the men in the apartment, Tyrike Dario, earlier in the evening and gave him a summons for disorderly conduct."
Alphabet City BB Gun Sniper Just One of Many?
"Everybody here is scared now," downtown bodega worker Primo Dlmn from Morocco tells the Times. "I’m as nervous as I can be, but I’ve got to go to the store. Life goes on." Or does it? A sniper with a high-power BB gun has been terrorizing Avenue D between Third and Fourth Streets during the past week, lodging pellets in a construction worker's skull, shattering car windows, and wounding six others. Now the NYPD says there have been other BB gun shootings in the area, and it looks like there may be some sort of teen pellet gun gang. How street is that? Local mailman James Heckstall says, 'It used to be terrible around here, the Wild West...The neighborhood is getting nicer and nicer. Then, every once in a while, something like this happens, and it makes us look bad." And then someone shoots their eye out.
BB Gun Sniper At Large in Alphabet City
Some warped punk with a BB gun has been firing at people near the corner of Avenue D and East Third Street during the past week; at least eight people have been shot, and several car windows have been blown out by the sniper. Construction worker Edward Gilyard was shot on Friday, and doctors found two pellets lodged next to his skull. He was at his job site when he felt a sharp pain on his right temple, and tells the Daily News, "I put my hand up there and felt the blood... All of a sudden, I had a little hole in my head."
EMT Accused of Shooting BB Gun at Coworkers As "A Joke"
A decorated EMT is being investigated for allegedly shooting several subordinates "for fun" with a BB gun in their Canarsie headquarters. A source tells the Post that Lt. Leonard Tiberi (pictured), an EMT since 1996, was fond of bringing his BB gun to work and shooting at soda bottles. But his superiors weren't too keen on Tiberi's trigger happiness, and he was ordered to leave the gun at home. Nevertheless, he packed heat again one night this month, allegedly choosing targets other than soda bottles, which, to be fair, can get pretty boring targets. The Post's source says, "That night, he took it a step further and shot at the employees a couple of times each as a joke." What a cut-up, that Tiberi! It's all fun and games until you shoot your coworker's eye out, but maybe he didn't see the harm of a little gunplay because his coworkers are all medics. Complicating matters, however, is that everyone Tiberi allegedly shot at were minorities, according to the unidentified source.
