Brooklyn Teen Arrested In Random Blowgun Dart Sniper Attacks

Teenagers: When they're not lobbing bricks at cyclists or jumping onto subway tracks to play chicken with oncoming trains, they're firing freaking darts at pedestrians with blowguns. Yesterday residents of Bensonhurst and Bath Beach were on edge after several pedestrians were hit with three-inch long darts. Now police say they've caught one of the culprits, who allegedly fired the darts at random passers-by from an apartment window. more ›

Brooklyn Man Allegedly Attacks Roommates Over Kitty Litter

Brooklyn Man Allegedly Attacks Roommates Over Kitty Litter

One of the zaniest police blotter items of the summer comes to us courtesy the NY Post, which reports on a roommate fracas fueled by "festering feline feces." Oleksandr Ilyin, 35, reportedly returned home to his Bath Beach apartment Wednesday evening to find a garbage bag full of kitty litter. Police say that upon seeing the scat he snapped, and dumped the dirty litter all over his two roommates' bedrooms. This is where your average disgruntled roommate would crack open a Tecate and sit down for a night of Metal Gear Solid I, but not our Mr. Ilyin. more ›

Postal Worker Found Dead in His Brooklyn Home

A 56-year-old post worker was found stabbed to death in the basement of the Bath Beach home he shared with his brother. Donald Paccione found yesterday morning by his brother and 1010 WINS reports, "There were no signs of forced entry." Neighbors tell NY1 that Paccione was well-liked, "He was a man who kept to himself, worked religiously with the post office, not retired yet, 56 years of age, still working, loving every minute. It's the truth." The attic apartment was rented to a tenant and his elderly mother, the Daily News reports, adding, "Detectives were interviewing the tenant, whom neighbors said had a drug problem and had robbed Donald Paccione once before. But Paccione forgave the man and never pressed charges, neighbors said." more ›

Midweek Special: NYC Restaurant Review Roundup

Midweek Special: NYC Restaurant Review Roundup

Today the Times’s Frank Bruni relates his multiple visits to West Village Asian barbecue restaurant Bar Q, and by the sounds of it you’d never guess print media is in any kind of financial trouble – an initial trip with one group of ungrateful friends prompted so much "grumbling" he had to "unruffle their feathers" by being “especially profligate with the wine” on his paper’s expense account. The hangers-on who shared his second visit tasted a better side of Bar Q; after passing over chef Anita Lo’s “cloying” baby back ribs for her “gorgeous” steamed lobster, he decides that Lo’s “triumphs, more than her wobbles, stayed with me.” Two stars. more ›

Brooklyn Tenant-Superintendent Dispute Turns Acidic

A long-running feud between a Bath Beach apartment building superintendent and a tenant turned violent yesterday morning. Tenant Alberto Sanchez allegedly wielded a knife at super Leoncio DeJesus, who then threw acid in Sanchez's face. The acid hit Sanchez's girlfriend, who was attempting to calm him down, as well. Sanchez had allegedly jabbed the knife towards the super, and a witness said he overheard Sanchez saying, "I am gonna kill him" yesterday morning. Another said,... more ›

Back-to-Back Mob Shootings in Brooklyn

Back-to-Back Mob Shootings in Brooklyn

Police are wondering if yesterday's execution-style killing of Genovese crime family member is related to the shooting of another mob member a day before. The Post has a graphic (pictured) showing that the Tuesday attack on Gambino family member Robert DeCicco was just a mile away from Rudolph Izzi's Shore Parkway home, where he was found dead. more ›
