After Jake got his hoodie from Neighborhoodies, I decided to order one. But what to personalize it with? Riverside? Glen Rock? Basking Ridge? Mid-Levels? Jake suggested Trumpland. I decided to represent and get one with "Gothamist."

The Times article about NJ's Monroe Township trying to figure out what to do with an old tree (save or cut it down to make way for highway) made me think about my hometown, Basking Ridge, NJ. While the tree in the Times article is not the main Monroe Township tree, but a more neglected though still amazing 300-400 year old one, trees seem to be in the hearts of NJ towns. In the center of Basking Ridge, there's a huge oak tree at the Presbyterian Church, and according to local lore, "This 600 year old white oak tree is a site where George Washington supposedly picnicked in the late 1770's."

I've just discovered that all the Brooklyn Papers, including my favorite, the Park Slope Paper, are available online as PDFs. Finally! Now I don't have to trudge all the way back into Brooklyn just to read the 78th Precinct's Police Blotter. BrooklynPapers.com. Other small circulation papers I try to read every week? [Jen, 11:00AM]: My old hometown of Basking Ridge has its news reported in The Bernardsville News...there is also a police blotter. I was sad to hear that my old middle school principal, Joan Tonarelli, was retiring. She was a former nun who ruled Willam Annin Middle School with an iron fist.
