The Jets improved to 2-0 by demolishing Jacksonville 32-3. Credit the defense with this win as they recorded a safety, two sacks, four interceptions and missed a defensive touchdown by 1/2 a yard. Mark Sanchez threw two interceptions and two touchdowns. Shonn Greene rushed for only 3.1 yards per carry, but found the end zone. The Jets now head on the road for three-straight weeks, stopping in Oakland and Baltimore before heading to Foxboro for a showdown with New England. more ›

Last Night's Action: A Bad Start

Bartolo Colon was terrible, but the Yankees almost mounted a comeback in their 16-7 loss Thursday. Colon didn't make it out of the first inning as he surrendered six hits and eight runs (three earned). New York trailed 9-0 after two, but actually cut the lead to 9-7, thanks mainly to two homers from Andruw Jones. But, the comeback was not to be as Toronto got to Hector Noesi, Boone Logan and Sergio Mitre for seven more runs and twelve additional hits. more ›

Derek Jeter got a hit to move two away from 3,000, but the Yankees played a mostly lifeless game and fell to Tampa 5-1. Bartolo Colon didn't have it, surrendering ten hits and five runs in five-plus innings. The Yankees had some chances in the early innings, but couldn't get the big hit and Jeff Niemann cruised into the 8th innings. Toronto 7 Yankees 3: A brutal sixth inning doomed the Yankees and Bartolo Colon Monday night. With the game tied at 1, Colon surrendered a leadoff double. Mets 6 Houston 4: New York fell behind 4-0, but used the longball to get back into the game. Jason Bay got things started with a solo shot in the 7th. Fernando Martinez hit a two-run shot in the 8th to cut the deficit to one. That was followed quickly by David Wright's two-run blast to put the Mets up by 1. Jason Pride doubled in Justin Turner in the 9th to provide the final difference and K-Rod got the final four outs for his 11th save. more ›

The Yankees salvaged their weekend with a 9-3 victory over the Twins Sunday. Four home runs, two by Jason Giambi and one each from Robinson Cano and A-Rod powered New York. Chien-Ming Wang had his finest outing of the season, pitching seven strong innings for the win. more ›

Gothamist was beginning to wonder if Mariano Rivera was still on the Yankees. Through five games the Yankees had not used him, even though they had played a few close games. Sunday, Rivera finally got in a game, but his presence was unnecessary as the Yankees cruised to a 10-1 win. more ›

The Yankees could not have asked for much more in their 4-2 win over the Angels in Game 1 of the American League Division Series. They got a solid pitching performance from Mike Mussina, enough runs in the first two innings off Bartolo Colon, and a competetent bullpen performance to close it out. With the win, the Yankees have taken the first of two games played in Anaheim, and they hold the hammer since two of the next three, if necessary, will be at home. more ›
