The Giants face a crisis of confidence as they enter a critical game against Tennessee on Sunday. After another disastrous effort by Eli Manning, Tiki Barber took it upon himself to rip the Giants coaches for the second time in 11 months. Barber’s comments about abandoning the running game may be correct, but they were not well timed. Besides the internal bickering, the Giants have more injury problems. Corey Webster and Barry Cofield are both questionable, which further weakens a depleted defense.
Giants Looking For A Win
Big Blue Preview
Many years ago, Three Dog Night warned “Eli’s Coming” and Giants’ fans have to hope they knew what they were talking about. For all the great moves New York made in the off-season, from adding LaVar Arrington, Will Demps and Sam Madison to drafting Barry Cofield and Mathius Kiwanuka, the season will come down to how much Eli Manning has improved. If he is the same QB who barely completed over 50% of his passes, they are in trouble. Conversely, if he is like many of the great QB’s of NFL history who took a big jump forward in their third year, New York is a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
Draft Recap
Anytime you can walk away with two players who are rated #1 at their position, you have had an excellent draft and that is exactly what the Jets did. D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold will form the nucleus of their offensive line for the next decade. Kellen Clemens has a great arm and while he will need time to develop, could challenge Pennington and Ramsey for the starting job by the end of the year. Leon Washington should give them a good “change of pace” running back and Eric Smith will probably contribute immediately in the secondary.
