Of all the people a falling air conditioner could have hit in the uber-trendy East Village, why did it have to be an elderly Vietnam veteran who's being evicted from his apartment? Probably because it was 8:30 a.m., not 8:30 p.m. Not that we want anybody to get hit by falling air conditioners, but you'd think—statistically speaking—an A.C. unit falling onto Wine Bar on Second Avenue would be more likely to land on someone a bit more scummy yuppie than Anthony Franzese, 67. But the timing was just all wrong.

McCartney Returns to Ed Sullivan Theater
Tonight is Paul McCartney's first ever performance on Letterman. Believe it or not, he hasn't performed in the Ed Sullivan Theater since 1965 when the Beatles made their final appearance on the stage (here's video from their first appearance). A tipster informs us that currently the outdoor awning is being set up for the performance, meaning he'll also be channeling the famous Beatles rooftop concert in the late '60s (video). He's not the first to take the show outside of the theater, Phish and TV on the Radio have done the same in the past. The performance will be around 5 p.m. today, will the crowd reach Beatle-mania proportions? After this, McCartney will launch what he's called his "final tour" at Citi Field on the 17th. If you happen to be in the area, send us your pictures or tag them with "Gothamist" on flickr!
Video: Hamptons Hotspot Georgica Soaks Patrons
While the eyes of the world were on the riots in Iran over the weekend, another shocking miscarriage of justice almost went unnoticed closer to home in East Hampton—but thankfully a reporter for Plum TV was on hand to bravely document Saturday night's panic at the shitshow. In the middle of a rainstorm, a crowd waiting for their cars and others clamoring to get inside were huddled under the awning outside Georgica, a "hotspot" run by promoter Matt Levine, whom you may recall from his work at Lower East Side tool magnet The Eldridge.
