Mike Pelfrey dialed things back to June and the Mets managed to scratch out a run against one of the NL’s best, the Colorado Rockies. Jose Reyes helped out with a sacrifice fly. THe Yankees fell to the Rangers in 10 innings, 4-3, and it was Mo who let them down.
Last Night's Action: So Close
Last Night's Action: Is This Rock Bottom?
Their starting pitching is completely broken and Mariano Rivera can’t get an out. The offense is now slumping and the bullpen imploding from overuse. Steinbrenner is reportedly ready to fire Joe if they are swept by Boston. Jeff Karstens takes the hill today, gulp.
Last Night's Action: Still Waiting for the Playoffs
- Mets 12, Nationals 6: What's left for the Mets this season? All they have to do is rest their regulars, fine tune their starting pitching (no crying in baseball, right?), and figure out who their first round opponent. Last night, potential fourth starter, John Maine took the mound and didn't look all that impressive - not the best way to earn a spot in the starting rotation. Maine allowed four runs over five innings, but still picked up the win thanks to a six run 5th inning when the Mets batted around the lineup. Jose Reyes and David Wright both had 3 RBI in the win. Unfortunately for the Nationals, Nick Johnson broke his femur in the 8th inning when he collided with Austin Kearns.
Last Night’s Action: Mets Cycle To A Loss/Yanks Take A Series
-Reds 6 Mets 5: Jose Reyes recorded the first cycle in the majors this year, but Billy Wagner blew the save and the Mets lost. Wagner got the first two outs of the ninth, but then walked Austin Kearns and David Ross and gave up back-to-back singles to Rich Aurilia and Brandon Phillips. Carlos Beltran led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk, but Carlos Delgado flied out and David Wright grounded into a double play to end the game. The Mets finish their homestand tomorrow before heading to Toronto.
An Inauspicious Start for the Amazin Bullpen
Offensively, the Mets provided Martinez and the bullpen with a three run lead, but that wasn't enough. When Looper came in to "close" the game, the lead was already trimmed to two, but he quickly gave up not only the lead, but the game. Newsday has it right, calling it a 1-2-3 inning - a single for Austin Kearns, a home run for Adam Dunn, a game winning home run for Joe Randa.
