If you're a Nets fan, you probably keep the Tums close at hand. Last night, the Nets managed to lose in the final moments of the game again. This time to the Philadelphia 76ers, 100-98. It was the 2nd night in a row that the Nets lost in overtime (they lost to the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday) . The only other time the franchise has consecutive overtime losses is in 1977. Even though the season's winding down, the New York Knicks are taking advantage of spring fever and organizing another Singles Night at Madison Square Garden. After a successful event earlier this year, Gothamist is teaming up with the Knicks again for an evening of mixing and mingling before, during and after a game against the Atlanta Hawks on April 17.
These losses (especially the one to the Hornets last week) have put Lenny Wilkens' job in serious jeopardy. Isiah Thomas has sworn that he would never install himself in the coaching role, but the New York media have never really put much stock in that. Given Thomas' proclivity for trades, expect some shifts in both players and coaching before next month's trade deadline.
Further proof that it is the Warriors, and not the Clippers, that are the NBA's most hapless franchise. Golden State has agreed in principle to deal prized free agent center Erick Dampier to the Knicks for back ups Nazr Mohammed and Othella Harrington.
At 12:01 AM this morning, NBA free agents finally became eligible to put their John Hancock on the deals they agreed to over the last two weeks. While most of the press is focusing on where Kobe Bryant will land, local hoops fans are waiting with baited breath to find out what Kenyon Martin decides to do.
With the Pistons Championship firmly in the books, the offseason is now underway. The other 28 teams that stopped playing a long time ago have been feverishly preparing for next week’s draft for some time now.
