Last Friday we announced that White Rabbits are playing our next Movable Hype show. Now we'd like to introduce you to another band playing the show: Ford & Fitzroy.

MUSIC: We've been enjoying us some Ford & Fitzroy, and are eager to hear what they've got in store sonically (as there is only one track available online right now). But the ex-Asobi Seksu bassist and his talented bandmates have got us hooked off just that one tune. Give a listen at their MySpace. And check them out tonight with V2's Roman Candle.

In 2004 we asked a bunch of New York bloggers to suggest sonic stocking stuffers. This year, we asked New York bloggers, bookers, musicians and more, what they'd give as a gift this holiday season. Here you go...commence shopping!

THEATER: The Ledge is a multi-media solo show based on a 1959 short story by Lawrence Sargent Hall. The production uses video projection as the only source of stage lighting to tell the haunting tale of a fisherman who becomes stranded with his son and nephew on a small reef off the New England coast in winter. When his wife ultimately finds his frozen body, he is compelled by her eyes to relive his last hours holding the boys above the icy waters. Martin Denton praised the Dixon Place workshop production of The Ledge as “a theatrical experience of rare power and beauty: an exploration of our humanity that has the profound capacity to move and uplift its audience.” - John Del Signore

We first saw this band completely by accident. Having never been to a show at Union Hall before, we got to the venue way before headliners Silversun Pickups took the stage and lucked into catching an opening set by the lovely Daylight's for the Birds. Normally we would have taken in a song and got back to Bocce, but these guys totally sucked us in. Lush, layered guitars and a gentle female voice keeping everything in place, the comparisons to previous BOTW'ers Asobi Seksuare all noted, but that can't really be taken as a bad thing. Surely there's room for more than one shoegaze revivalist band in Brooklyn.

Yuki - Keyboard, Vocals, James Hanna - Guitar, Vocals, Haji - Bass, Mitch Spivak - Drums

The week is short and there really isn't a huge amount going on in the venues until the weekend. Plus, it's going to be about 1000 degrees, so packing in to a small sweaty venue isn't highest on our list of priorities. Here's what we do suggest, and as usual - feel free to list some shows in the comments.

We'd been gearing up for SXSW this year for months, with shows to plan and afterparties to help out with - it took up a lot of our time, even when we weren't there yet. Now that it's over, we're not quite sure what to do with ourselves, or how to recap it all. We also haven't been near a computer in a week, so bear with our slow typing.

Yesterday we announced details about the afterparty, and now we're gonna tell you about the "beforeparty" thrown by Austinist and Gothamist, subtitled: "Gonna Gonna Get, Get Down!".

Damn, it's cold out there! Gothamist recently had a friend check weather.com before deciding whether to venture out of her home. News flash, folks: It's January! It's cold, finally! Put a coat on and let's rock:

Luckily for us, New York didn't feel too far away as we bumped into a few of our favorite downtown bands. The Cloud Room, Asobi Seksu and Morning Theft were all there enjoying the festivities. We had a chance to catch The Cloud Room yesterday at the Fader/Levi's party and will be telling you all about it after our nap. For now, check out photos here of our time in Austin thus far.

Too bad Snow Patrol isn't playing this week to provide us with some poetic justice.

Gothamist doesn't really like New Years Eve, it's overhyped and too expensive. So short of suggesting you just stay at home here's a little list of things you could do to ring in '05.

So it's almost time to go home for the holidays, and you as a New Yorker have to bring the best presents. You know that right? The rest of your non-New Yorker friends and family look to you for your urban hipness, don't let them down.

Still haven't ironed out your New Years Eve plans yet? It's okay, we think that holiday is over-rated anyway. We suggest you gather some good friends, resolve in '05 to buy tickets before they sell out and get over to one or more of the following shows:

Since we had such success with the first Gothamist Event, .

- And most of all, you, the readers who came out to enjoy an evening of music and meeting new people. Thanks for all your support!

Tonight, 8PM, at the The Knitting Factory, four bands are coming together to play: The Fresh, The Sons of Sound, Snowden, and Asobi Seksu. Plus, Tarts of Pleasure is deejaying between sets. There are $2 drink specials from Triple 8 Vodka, some Gothamist t-shirts to be given away, and Gothamist will be donating our proceeds to a NYC public school program from DonorsChoose.org.

So we're exactly one week away from the first Gothamist event, Movable Hype. You may be asking yourselves a few qustions. Questions like, where do I buy tickets? To which we would answer: right here.

As mentioned earlier, Gothamist is presenting a show at the Knitting Factory, Movable Hype, on Tuesday, November 16. Our Arts & Events teams have put together a fabulous lineup: Asobi Seksu, Snowden, Sons of Sound, The Fresh, and DJs Tarts of Pleasure. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door (for more info; or just buy tickets). There are also $2 drink specials all night thanks to sponsor Triple 8 Vodka. It should be a great night of music and mingling, plus some special surprises, so we hope to see you there.

This is where Gothamist tells you what tickets to buy...before they sell out and you are left bargaining on Craigslist.

We hope you've stocked up on sleep the last few days, and stocked up on Sparks to get you through the next few because if that's the smell of unwashed rockers the wind is blowing in our direction it can only mean one thing, and that's CMJ is in town.

The first time Gothamist heard Asobi Seksu we didn't know what to expect, we'd heard them described as a more sultry Sonic Youth, a competant rock band reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine. Did they live up to their influences and comparisons? Yes, but they surpassed their reviews as they turned another corner to create their own unique sound. It isn't just the occassional Japanese lyrics that sets them apart but a layered effect that combines the best of rock with something more mystical, something we'd never heard before. Asobi Seksu is Yuki (Keyboard, Vocals), James Hanna (Guitar, Vocals), Glenn Waldman (Bass), Keith Hopkin (Drums)...and Gothamist couldn't be more psyched to see them @ Mercury Lounge tonight! They were even kind enough to let us ask them some questions this week...
